Our vet has advised elbow and shoulder xrays to investigate an intermittent lameness. They have quoted around £700 for both joints in both front legs in a 28kg Lab under GA. They are great vets but this sounds like a lot. I am keen to try and see if this is about right for the procedure or if they might be laying it on a bit as he is insured.

Does anyone have any idea what xrays cost as I haven't had any done for years.

Thanks :)

When D dislocated her hip the GA and x-rays came to just over £200.

When R was undergoing investigations into his leaky bladder he had multiple x-rays with contrast dye, lots of different positions including an extra sneaky shot of the hips at my request, various pipes up the bladder etc. - GA and x-rays came to around £500, £200 of which was the fee for the hour and a half the vet spent doing it.

Both dogs are around 24kg and the vet knew they were insured before treatment started.

i got quoted between 260 and 500 for x rays of ankle and shoulder of an elderly dog in jan. small animal vets seem to charge much more than equine vets for x ray.

Hmmmm I can't remember how much Sages were but I know I was a bit  a how steep they were. She had very similar x-rays and it turned out to be arthritis. She is on Trocoxil and is now completely sound and back to her nutty self.

I can't remember exactly how much Evie's hip and elbow x rays were but I think around £160, vet uses sedative not GA though. I would ask them to give you an itemised quotation to see what is hiking the cost up.
