My horse is undergoing treatment for suspensory damage (has just has a bilateral neurectomy) and arthritis in both hocks (will be having corticosteroid injections into hocks and sacro iliac and will be treating with tildren) so I thought I would post some of her scan images as I thought they were interesting so thought some of you lot might to :)

Right Hock from outside-Showing greater arthritic changes in the 'shock absorber' joints, note less clear distinction between plates

Right Hock from inside-Showing greater arthritic changes in the 'shock absorber' joints, note less clear distinction between plates and also dark patches where the body is trying to combat the arthritis by eating away at the bone.

Hind quaters-dark region around the sacrolilac shows higher levels of metabolic activity-this is bad

Rib cage from above (I *think* the dark area is the heart)

Very interesting however hope you don't mind me saying that the x-rays you have labelled sacro-illiac are actually the stifles I think!!

Nope don't mind in the least, was hoping some one would check that they were labeled correctly as I wasn't 100% Thanks :D

Very interesting, thank you! My horse has just been diagnosed with arthritic changes to both hocks (right a little more than left) and I had Xrays taken similar to yours. I don't have mine to hand, but I can see similarities.

My vet is going to inject the hocks for the first time on Monday. The name of the injection escapes me for the moment (it'll last 6-9 months), but he's confident we've caught it sufficiently early to allow me to continue riding him as normal, which in turn will keep him fit and mobile with a view to the hocks fusing over time.

Obviously time will tell, but I trust my vet. Hopefully you do too, and I wish you well with your horse.
