In all my years of having horses Ive been lucky and never had a problem which requires xraying, could anyone tell me if I had to have an xray would I have to take my horse to the vet surgery or do they have portable machines that they bring to the yard like they do with scanning , any info please :

My husband has a portable x-ray machine so as not to stress the horse out with a surgical environment but sometimes it is easier to have them in if it requires a little more than a handful of plates. We usually take the plates straight back and the client has the results & diagnosis within the hour.

Our vets have a diagnostic centre to go into for major stuff but also digital x-ray machines to go on calls with. Beauty of this is that the x-rays can be viewed there and then and if one isn't good enough it can be retaken straight away.

my vet uses portable xray, fwiw needs mains electric as generators can cause the machines to blow up!!
