Hello everybody ☺ I don't post often but am a long time Lurker! I need advice about a sarcoid my pony has on his shoulder..
So..sarcoid was treated for 6 days with xxterra cream. Sarcoid has now doubled in size and is a big black scab...I was warned that it would get worse before it gets better. What I want to know is do I just leave it the way it is now or should i be washing it with something ??? Pony is not that sore about it. How long does it take to heal ?? And will the hair ever grow back ?? Just want to know your experiences so I know how to deal with it.
Thanks for reading
Olivia

I haven't used the cream, sorry, who gave you the original advice? I would check with either your Vet or the company that make the cream.

I've used bloodroot ointment very successfully on a couple of sarcoids. I think XXterra is similar.

The instructions I was given was to apply the ointment twice daily for 5 to 25 days. Inflammation with oedema and erythema of the surrounding normal skin indicates a good response. Once the tumour surface is escharotic, treatment can be stopped until it separates. Applications should then be repeated until all masses have disappeared and there is an intact epithelial covering.

I followed these instructions to the letter, and touch wood, neither have returned. Hope this helps.

Scatterbrain, when it became like an open wound did you do anything like wash it with saline or chlorhexidine or take off the remaining scab or anything like that or did you just leave it be ?

I didn't wash it or interfere with it in any way. The sarcoid was left to separate, and eventually after a week or so, it fell off. I then reapplied the ointment for a few days to make sure I'd got the root. If memory serves me correctly, I applied the ointment initially twice daily for approx 10 days until i could see the sarcoid starting to separate from the skin, then once it was off, I applied once daily for a further 5 days.
