Just a follow up to the thread I posted about how to 'prep' my son's very hairy sec A for a show today (see http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=522344). I went with the non clipping and effectively steam cleaned him with towels soaked in very warm water. It worked really well and I got him all lovely and white with no shampoo (or pneumonia!) so thank you to the person who suggested it.
He was still very fluffy, but at least he was clean and my 9 year old son got 2 thirds - one in M&M in hand, and one in the veteran class (pony is 20). There were some very smart turnouts so we were both pleased. Of course the first thing he did when he got home was roll, but that is normal as he seems to hate being clean.

And a photo (sorry not great as taken with my phone). :)

Well done they both look lovely. That's a really good tip about steaming, I have a grey native who is also a hippo.

Thank you all. He has a very sweet face which allows him to get away with far more than he should. His coat is coming out in handfuls at the moment and gets EVERYWHERE!

Mulledwine - your sec A looks cute, and you're lucky, virtually no white! You have no excuses. :p

The steaming was great, after I did it I just put a couple of large towels under his stable rug, left him for a few hours and he was fine. He didn't even mind it as the water was lovely and warm - much better than a cold hose!

Thanks everyone! They are both cheeky monkies, but can turn on the charm when they need to. ;)

We've had the pony for 12 years as he was my older son's first pony, but it was younger son's first showing show (just one gymkhana last year). Blame it on useless mother, second child, house moving etc. :o

Yak and son look smashing , the steam cleaning idea is fab and i bet it secretly felt lovely for the yak - even if he did feel the need to roll afterwards!
