Our yard was broken into last night, all saddles etc gone.

Someone also lost some cleaned rugs last week too.

If you are in this area, please be vigilant. Better still, wherever you are - take your tack home!! I never leave mine at the yard, I can't tell you how relieved I am now that that's the case.

Also, on my way to yard this morning (5.45am) I came across a herd o loose shetland ponies on the lane to our yard. Police called. I think the two are connected as when we were burgled years ago thieves cut fences as an escape route.

I'm very sorry to hear this, was any of the tack marked or readily identifiable?

Please warn people on the yard that they might get a return visit in a couple of months, this can happen as the offenders sometimes wait until all the tack is replaced before stealing it again.

Perhaps it would be worth asking for a yard visit from the local crime prevention officer for security tips and or local Horsewatch with a tack marking kit once new items have been obtained?

Please everyone get your valuable items of tack marked and make sure you have taken adequate precautions to protect it, pay special attention to ensure that it is stored somewhere acceptable to your insurance company.

Thanks - I'm not sure whether anything was marked, I would guess not though.

I'm going to try and get a list of what's been taken and will pass it onto Horsewatch as I am on the Hants mailing list.

Don't suppose you know the number plate - would be good to pass on to the officer dealing with our break-in. That is very very close to us, our yard is really close to Hayesbridge feeds so only really a mile or two up the road.
