Hi everyone,

I am lucky I know. I stable at a lovely yard where we organise regular yard events; gymkhanas, dressage (with and without music), jumping days etc.
For my sins I have volunteered to organise a 'le trec' style event.

We have over 4 miles of off road farm tracks to ride on and two riding paddocks so have the scope to put on a mini le trec.

Just need some ideas for obstacle stations - any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

low branches (20cm above horse's withers), small natural style jumps, ditches, canter corridors / rein back corridors, S-bends marked out with poles on the ground - they're all pretty easy to set up and you don't need much specialist equipment. Same for off-side mounting, immobility etc. foot bridges can be mocked up - I was at an indoor trec the other week where they used a road block to form a barrier on one side and rubber mats to form the bridge part... If you look on the trec uk website you'll see lots of photos of different obstacles. The rule book is only about £5 from the BHS website and would give you all the measurements for each obstacle. good luck :)

Hi :)

you could just make up a small course of 10 obstycles (instead of usual 16) and these could be:

1. Corridor (Led or ridden) - 2 poles 0.5m apart
2. Rein back (Led or ridden) - 2 poles slightly wider than corridor but cant remember exact mesurments with marks from where to rein back to and from
3. s bend - Poles in shape of an S to walk through (Led or ridden)
4. Jump
5. Immobility - fenced off area with 2 circles(One inside other) to leave horse standing in and rider steps out into outer circle for 10 secs whilst horse stands in inner circle (Well meant to anyway!)
6. Gate - Safe gate that can be opened and shut on a horse with rope handle to hold onto
7. Ride up/down (Also can be led) - use a bank or similar

I can suggest you buy a rulebook and that has all the info on obstycles :)

a cut out cow or pig usually is good to play with - or on the 'roads and tracks' kind of bit = if you have any local obsticals think of this!

with all obstacles do make sure they are securely tied down (last time i did one the tarpaulin my mare walked under fell on top of us like a carry on tent sketch!!! luckily Mare just stood awaiting rescue! :D

I'm sure it will be loads of fun! :D

We did on last year at our yard and it was great fun! Lovely seeing us hackers and the competition girlies all doing the same things!! The horses really seemed to enjoy it and the hackers for once showed up the comp horses as they all excelled in most events!!! We had :

Fast trot and slow canter timed section.
Gate opening.
Getting on and off from the wrong side.
Controlling the horse between obstacles (sp)
Going under branches.
Riding up a hill and down again (used the XC course for these)
Going over a tarpulin(sp) then taking a little jump.
Riding over a bridge.

The final thing was a timed canter around a field.

Have fun we had a blast at ours and hopefully we'll have another one arranged this year.
