Sometime last night/early hours this morning.

I was first up today and noticed the shed doors were open, the padlocks thrown on the floor. I then saw the YO's barn doors open, realised we had been broken into, ran to the stable block, all Horses fine, no rugs missing (despite there being loads hung in stables) tack room not been broken into. All the Horses were their usual calm selves apart from my old share mare who was at the back of the stable in the corner.

Once I had Hayed and fed I rung my YO to break the news, I stayed on the phone with her whilst I was walking around trying to find out how they got in. Then I saw a huge chunk of fencing, it had been cut and knocked down.

Only thing missing is our quad bike. It seems they knew exactly what they wanted.

It could have been worse. But it's horrible to know someone's been near my Horse. She could have easily been taken. It's frightening.

Oh no! It's scary, isn't it?
Once we had a caravan stolen, but thankfully that's all they took and they closed the gate after them (horses in the field!!!).
We were grateful no one was hurt and only the caravan was taken...but if they hadn't closed the gate, there would have been 6 horses able to get onto the road AND that they'd been near the horses was just terrifying!!!

Near us the farmer immobilised his locked up quad bikes by removing the spark plugs. The thief just brought his own and nicked it anyway.

We are in Essex.

We use the quad all the time, we use it to Harrow the school, poo pick, move muck heap, hay bales etc. So it's going to be missed.

Strangely it doesn't look like they even went near the tackroom. Which makes us think they knew there was a quadbike there. The youngsters were out in the field. Luckily not the one they cut into. If the Horses were out in that field, I dread to think what could have happened.

Ahh right, were in Cheshire! Haha. Just shows how many places get broken into, its horrible isn't it. It makes you so mad!! Xx

What a horrible thing to happen, glad horses are OK. Problem is when it is a targeted theft like yours they wait for you to replace and come back. Can you fix up some sort of camera recording system so you get pictures might help catch the culprits.

Perhaps. We actually think we know who it is, we also had a witness that saw a car around the yard. The person we suspect it is happens to have a car matching this description. Police are now involved. Could be way off, of course.

Theiving scum. Loads of break ins recently, I've been hearing about. Glad ponies are all present and correct though at least.

The previous yard I was on was broken into, quad bike and all tack stolen. My current YO has his quad bike stolen so installed CCTV and the bas***ds came back and stole the CCTV as well as the quad!

YO has 2 quads (one stays at her house the other stayed at yard) I think she will just drive the quad up when we need it and then take it back to hers after and keep it locked up. Weird thing is it doesn't look like they even tried getting into the tack room.

My Friends Horse had knocked her expensive rug on the floor and they didn't take that either. They were either disturbed or just knew they wanted the quad.

Good chance they will be back .
Get everything you can marked with your post code .
Take you tack home.

Awful isnt it we had a break in this time last year and took the quad and cleared the tack room of everything!

We have moved rugs and I will be taking tack home with me. We are in Nazeing. Can't be seen from the road and we are very hidden.

We are in Cheshire and all our saddles were stolen on Monday. Nothing else was taken. I hate these low lifes who can disrupt things so much. I am the only one out of 6 who has a spare saddle so no one else can ride at the moment. Replacing the saddles will not be easy as our horses all seem to be odd shapes. Also the expense as we are not all covered for tack replacement.

Police seem to just pay lip service to investigating so probably no chance of getting them back

Years ago the yard I was working on was not quite broken into as the yard was still open and a lesson taking place at the time.

It was an evening lesson so yard was dark - they only took one persons stuff so we believe it was an inside job - probably by the person who's gear was pinched so that she could get some new stuff.

Same person pinched my girth and side reins - unfortunately for her they were quite identifiable as the girth was stained where some Stockholm Tar had spilled on it and the side reins were a mix of brass and stainless steel fittings as the brass clips had broken. So I got my stuff back.

Our quad got nicked but its so unreliable that they tried to start it, it obviously wouldn't so we found it dumped down the road. It is awful and conks out in the fields all the time!

The quad bike at our yard was stolen a couple of weeks ago, and as you know, we aren't that far from you. Didnt think to post a warning on here. Nothing else was tampered with, seems like they came specifically for the quad.

Unfortunately this sort of thing is on the increase: the police seem only interested in urban crime issues.

Your YO needs to address the issue of security ASAP. A situation occured in this area where someone's yard was broken into and stuff stolen, THEN within the next couple of weeks the thieves had struck AGAIN, just when they'd have re-stocked - and cleared everything out.

So be aware. We've spent £2000 on security and whilst we could have spent the money on stuff we'd REALLY wanted, it does give peace of mind to have it.

Your YO would be advised to shop around; ask some local (well-recommended) security firms to visit and do a survey, and give some estimates.

Also contact your local Crime Prevention dept; plus local Horsewatch/Farmwatch etc.

A yard near my old house bought some new gates and had 4 of them stolen, luckily no horses were in 3 of the fields and a old mare was in one and hadn't even noticed she could get out and was happily grazing in her field.
