Hi everyone, not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes.
Have just had a quote to connect mains electric to yard and the costs are scary ( many thousands even though existing supply pole is only circa 70 metres away ) Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to reduce costs or failing that alternative ways of lighting the yard in winter. Generator is obvious choice but we have one already and its a pain. How does everyone else manage .

I have just had an electricity supply from the pole about 8m away and it was £500 so I feel your pain! That is excluding the electrician wiring up.

If you can afford it I would go for mains definatley

good luck

We have a big diesel genny. It is quiet and turns on/off with a key. It's ideal for lighting etc. We could run horsewalker off it, but have decided to use a petrol motor for that.

My friends livery yard is awaiting connection to a pole 17 meters away its costing 6000 pounds and they are digging their own trench for that its a rip off really. Up to now they have had a diesal genny but now they are moving themselves onto the property they needs mains. The genny was very good but a bit noisy.

Thats the issue really, the electric company only need to flick a switch and they want thousands, nothing else is including not trench digging, not cable, connection box or base, no fittings absolutely nothing. I think its really bad that they have us over a barrel really and they have no competition so you can't shop around on price either. Thank you all for your thoughts
