I'm moving my boy in three weeks to a lovely new yard but I've never moved yards before!

I'm putting together a checklist of things I need to remember/take with me but any additional ideas would be great!

- wash/re-proof rugs
- dig out his passport for moving!
- new haynets (his are definitely due replacing)
- insure tack- it will be kept at new yard instead of home
- worm count before we leave
- lorry directions to new yard- there are some low bridges so need to work out a lorry friendly route

Anything else I need to prepare?!

Are you still friendly with the yard owners at the place you are leaving? I'd get a little pressie to say thanks. Never burn bridges if you can help it, you never know what's round the corner.

Yes still friendly- am only moving horse due to moving house. I've been at my current yard 7 years so will be a big change!

Thanks for the reminder of a gift! Will get that sorted ASAP!

Any Supplements you might have in the feed room, tis a pain to have to go back and get them or pick up more from the feed shop!

Make a list of all the tack/equipment you own and ensure you have an idea of rugs etc. I'd advise not leaving too much stuff about the yard. If you have a tack trunk or tack locker put as much of your bits and bobs into that, that way at least you know you have them.

I tend to start taking a lot of my non everyday use items home before I move, that way I know I have it and I can take my time over the week before I leave.

Agree with Electric Champagne we were moving on a Monday night. Horse living out. The weekend was spent clearing out my locker, throwing some stuff away, and cleaning the stable out properly so it was nice and clean and disinfected and dry for new resident. I packed a lot of my stuff into the lorry Sunday, and was able to drop if off at the new place on the same day. Then Monday night it was just move horse and some odds and sods.

I'm taking a load of his rugs to be cleaned tomorrow and have bought some storage bags for them.

Have my own Lorry so will be packing it the night before with everything.

He is in part livery so I'm not sure whether to ask for a few days worth of feed to take with me to slowly change him over to the new yard's feed?

I would just buy a bag of what he's currently on to take with you so you can take your time switching over
