Just wondered really how everyone gets on with their yard owners. Do you feel they work with you or against you? Do you feel in the way or part of the family? Just being nosey as having a few issues at the moment and wondered if this is fairly normal. Do you get informed of changes or do they just happen and you feel like you're the last to find out?

Have recently moved to a tiny little yard - just my two and the YO horse and I love it. The YO is so lovely and we take turns in sharing all of the jobs - so I even get a night off!!
grin.gif

Saying that though, I have never fallen out with any YO always left on good terms and all past ones were nice and helpful. Suppose bin quite lucky thinking about it!

Mine is wicked! When Ty injured himself she couldn't do enough to help and trasped 4 hours in the lorry with me to pick up my boy.

She's knowledgable and will always give me an honest opinion - couldn't ask for more!

I am on a really small yard - private farm, four horses, and I love it! I would go to the ends of the earth to stay there as been on some really horrid yards. See the YO every day and he has a cuppa with us, chats, laughs, offers advice (if asked for or not! LOL) and it is really lovely! YO is wicked and really easy to get on with!

There's only me and the YO horse at her yard and yes we get on like sisters! Her husband is my surrogate dad. I let myself into their house and put the kettle on - its my second home!

Yes...I get on with my YO great. I have been there 2 and a half yrs. But she is a great YO, really cares for the horse, and if you want to discuss anything she openly does so. I'm afraid I cannot say that all YOs meet hre standard...........

Hello Liri_lou,
I have issues with my YO

It's a shame as our yard is ideal but our YO does not have a clue and is only interested in the money.
We have spent all weekend doing fencing to keep our horses in the field.......something we pay her for

Have not had a problem on previous yard but then we knew where we stood and got on with it. We don't know where any of us stand

LOVE my YO!!! She's FABULOUS!!!! She's forgotten more about horses than I'll ever know!! She has the balance completely right between YO and friend. She's absolutely fair and level with everyone and is simply lovely!! NEVER been happier anywhere that I've had my horses!! I just know that she'll be able to cope with any emergency, whether I am there or not!

Our YO is brill, he comes and collects me if i want to go to the yard, i can come in and make myself a cuppa, he takes us to the beach and he gets me shavings etc really cheap, infact he gets it for me.

With OH working and me having sick mornings (pregnant lol) he feeds mine at no extra cost (DIY livery)

don't even get me started!
my yard manager knows nothing about horses. He thinks a horse that repeatedly tries to kill us in the field, bites, windsucks, weaves, box walks, cribs is lovely errr... can't see many positives myself.
Had a massive argument over haylage, my horse cannot have rye grass haylage as she is laminitic and also gets filled legs from the high protein levels- it took three weeks of stress and heated arguments for him to get some high fibre haylage- we do get bagged equilage and its comes weekly so not too much hassle really!
The school had a 15,000 pound surface, unfortunately they overlooked the fact you have to look after it- it now has some impressive craters and then compacted parts.
I'm the only one brave enough to say anything and I pay for it big time!
I have actually been quiet for a couple of weeks and everything was fine, so he just picks something else to be annoy me- this week its car parking!
The facilities are actually really nice and have a lot of potential- but I am leaving anyway

Yes my yard owner is like my other mum lol!
If i needed something she would be there for me.
But she does speak her mind, it's very funny, she makes me laugh! and it only me and jen on the yard with her!
The best thing is, is that she lives oposite us lol!

its just me and my yo and its all fallen into place and im so lucky and i hope she feels the same too. she does alot for me and for a surprise on saturday we mucked out (dug out) all her horses, cleaned her yard, washed tonnes of feed bowls, prepared the haynets, did the water, scraped off all the moss from the yard, and lots of other little things as a gesture as she was out and we didnt want her to do anything when she got back. im lucky enough to be able to just text her and ask her to bring my boy in/ turn out etc but because i appreciate it so much i only do that if necessary and urgent, but she is so nice that she says to me "dont be daft whats the point in coming down here just to turn out when i can do it" and she is teaching me so so much giving me lesson advice and schooling (encouraging and coaxing) me and my boy, and letting me ride her horse to learn more (and hopefully jump/show) and taking me to and from the shows in her trailer. a big thank you if youre reading any of this! you know who you are

I think it can spoil owning a horse when the yard owner is a nightmare like ours. Trouble is the facilities are good, fab school, lovely stables, forget the crap grazing. Its the attitude that stinks, she wanted to have a moan about me last night cos I walked my horse on a treasured piece of grass, so she texted someone else on the yard, rather than having the balls to text me, she critisises all our horses, and is greedy with the grass, giving her horses the best. And thats only the half of it, isn't it The Stropster.

It's just me and my two boys on the Farm ..... I have been there for 14 1/2 years and 7 1/2 years of them on my own ....... the owners leave me to it and treat me like a friend............ I am very very happy and content there ....... Long may it last

I didn't which is one of the reasons I moved, and now it seems my YO and her family are lovely and will go out of their way to help you. She arranged a little cheese and wine party on thurs night for me and the other new girl so we could get to meet everyone and have a chat! I get texts telling me that George is ok and not to worry, and tonight the lights went off in the school whilst I was in there because I didn't put enough money in and she came out to help to save me getting off and trudging to the meter box!!

Its very common for YO/YM to be stroppy and unhelpful. Sadly, I have been on 3 yards with such people. Then there was the yard that I put up with for 3 weeks where my mare was clearly unhappy. The YOs knew nothing about horses and had just lost their good YM by treating her so badly.

I have been back on my yard for 18 months. I left previously twice for a better school. Here the YM works with the liveries and I trust her entirely with my horse (we are on full livery). After the other experiences I realise that this is what really matters. I can box to another school.

My YO is also my best friend. Her OH has a tendency to take the p*ss all the time, but you just have to grin and bear it, 'cos he's a really good bloke really!

Don't start me on this one

Just moved to a great new yard.

I will say new YO is fab but have know her a long time there are 15 of us and we all get on great,we have a fab groom who knows everything about everything
grin.gif

Horses are really well looked after so no complaints.

So yes we get on really well with ours

WOW someone else with a meter for their lights in the school, we have one too but I don't think our YO will be as helpful as yours.
It's really silly as the 3 of us that have horses on her yard are friends so she is the only one being bitchy but has'nt got the guts to say it to anyones face
mad.gif

We just want the facilities that we pay for to be maintained and then to be left alone to get on with enjoying our horses without her negatives comments about our horses. We already know our horses faults without her pointing them out every 5 minutes
