Now on the whole the 17 years I have had horses I have always had great livery YO, to the point one even lent me the money to buy my last comp horse but it got me thinking when I moved to a new area I brought my filly with me and moved on a yard I decided to put her on full livery after having her on diy on this yard for a while, thought it would make sense till I settled, and I was starting new job so did not go down for two weeks, thinking its all day TO, and as i said full livery, YO called me and asked could I come and pay the bill on the fri as I said two weeks. i told her i would be down on yard on sunday so yes then on sat I got a call saying my filly was being neglected so she was calling rspca, my answer was she is on full livery I told her i wanted her back on diy and I would move asap as I have never come across an attidu de like it, I then was told by a few liverys how they were doing her during the day for free and yo just put her evening feed in that was full livery. So has any one else ever had trouble with yo,s or have I just been very lucky for the past 17 years with my YO.

This YO of yours sounds like they are taking the mickey to be honest, what with others and not YO doing the horse for you, i would not stay at a place like that, there are enough good ones out there so as you dont have to put up with such ignorance

IME livery yard owners are either bonkers or saints. Ive experienced both ends of the spectrum!

I suggest you move yards as soon as you can.....sounds like you have a bonkers one.

Thats just stupid

Full livery should mean Full livery. Move yards there are plenty of good ones out there. At my yard that type of thing would NEVER happen partically to those paying extra for full livery

This is precisely why you get a contract...but now you have the benefit of hindsight.

sounds like a disgraceful shambles but at l;east next time you will be sure to be clear on what is expected of either party.
I have a great YO at present. On a farm, just the three of us. It's fabulous- for the first time I do not wake up in the morning worrying about them as i know that the farmer will have stuck his head over the door first thing and fed them. I also know that is anything happened during the day it would be dealt with sensibly and if necessary, I would be called. Last yard I didn't trust the girl fully so if I needed her to do something extra one day I( would spend the time worrying about when/if it had been done. I have now struck gold.

couln't agree more. I've just had to move my boy again, and in the process of looking around have met loads of mentalist's!

IMO it is not good for business, when you are about to charge someone £92 a week, on a first viewing, to start telling them how over worked you are, how you won't be doing any full or part livery on bank hols and bank hol weekends, and that you are stressed and over worked- this was a BHS approved yard! This was just one bad one, there were many more.......
the first place I had him at, where he was ment to be on full livery, (it was £75PW even when all the horses were out 24/7) I had to ask for them to muck out my stable, they didn't always feed him- even when I had made the feeds up, didn't give him medication, he was permenatly injured due to their care. Needless to say we moved.
This post is getting long, so I will stop with my tales of woe.... you know they don't have your horses interests at heart, and if you're working you need to be able to trust them; you will have to move

The next place you go to could be fab though- I only moved last sunday, but already I love the new place- I hope i've not just just jinxed it!

I moved her a while back but I was thinking as I said in my post I have always had great yo but how many people actually put up with yo similar to that one I have worked on yards for years and know full liverys do not have to come up every day thats why you pay the extra.

Most of my liveries are on grass board and the majority of them only come up on rent day, LOL!! I have a couple of liveries who come up every day or every other day, but most don't.

I don't know whether you have been lucky - I wouldn't say that, as I've generally known all of the livery yard owners in whichever area I reside in, and I'd say most are really nice kind and knowledgeable people.

You've just been unlucky this time I think.

god mines on diy livery including hay and straw for £30 pw and my sister works there so if i can't get for any reason i ring her. but i really much rather do it my self.

£60 pw that was for 11.2 filly welsh so she only has to look at feed and puts on so much weight using max 2 bales of hay and 2 straw but if she was out everyday it was one of each, and on very little feed,

I think there all mad. I've moved a few times over the past couple of years and each one is more wierder than the last. Just moved recently and this one has really strict rules helpp.... Dont think I can cope I wanna leave.
