We are taking on a private yard that is overlooked by a busy road (houses opposite)

Any hints for keeping it secure / stopping people feeding the horses. We're going to fence off the top bit of the fields, so the horses can't get near the road - but wondered about putting up extra fencing so the horses can't be seen / trees etc?

Just to add - the fields are securely fenced - I meant fence off further down to stop the horses getting to the fence line which is next to a footpath.

Id like the yard to be a little less visible from the road.

You could do an electric ring inside the field fence, far enough away for them not to be able to be fed. Also poss fix up a dummy CCTV and put up notices saying that feeding horses scraps can poison them and anyone found doing so will be prosecuted.

I would engage the people whose houses are visible from the field. Maybe bag up some muck and offer that to them initially, and once you are chatting, ask them to keep an eye on the field.

As to fencing out of sight.....mmmm not sure: there is security of some kind in the 99% of good folk being able to see whats going on.

Thanks - thats a good idea about the houses opposite. We'll go over and introduce ourselves when we move in!

I've both a 'fake' alarm and we're putting electric fencing up at that end - but will look at the dummy cctv also.
