I am considering the possibility of doing some freelance yard work; mucking out, turning out, grooming, plaiting, clipping, riding out etc. Does anyone have any idea what sort of money per hour this type of basic work will command?

Or - to put it differently - what would you pay for someone to do your horse on a daily or occasional basis?

I have 2 lovely girls who help me out as and when I need one charges £15 for am feed, turnout, muck out (inc water and hay) and bring in, the other charges £10 (but I give her £15). This is for 3 horses but everything is quite compact and this is easily done within 1 hour, (and 15 mins to come back and bring in!).
Mane and tail pulling varies from some people charging £5, to one guy who was recommended who charged me £20!!!!!!!!!! per tail! Needless to say it wasn't 4 x a better job than the others! And he was never asked again.

I help down on a full livery yard a couple of afternoons a week. I bring in/turn out, basic groom, hay, feed, skip out and general tidy up before I leave. This is for 10 horses though usual a couple of them are already in/been groomed depending on what the owners are doing. It takes me 2 hours and I get £6 an hour so pretty basic but it is fine for me. However if i was freelance I would charge more for plaiting/clipping etc which isnt normally included in the routine.
