Apologies in advance i know this has been done and done, ive tried to use the search function but on a phone it is almost impossible.

So please can anyone advise any DIY yards in the chelmsford area or ones to avoid, part livery at a push.

Thank you very much in advance from a frustrated searcher

Dukes/Lightfoots/Stonehill are all the same "yard" or run by the same people. Dukes/Lightfoots both have schools albeit small ones with rather deep surfaces and the hacking's pretty decent. PM if you want more info as I don't want to discuss them on an open forum.

Newlands Hall (roxwell off the A1060) has a lot going for it in some senses - good hacking, school (small but surface isnt' so deep. Used to flood but may be better now). Lots of grazing but some is quite a walk and the fencing leaves a lot to be desired, if I'm honest (last time I was over there hacking, pushing for a year ago).

Mashbury hall - again decent grazing, good hacking, two schools though I'm told the big new one is very deep, decent stables on the newer yard. I had issues there, but I have friends who're pretty happy there. There's also Dyers Hall which is owned by same people. Hacking's good though I don't think as good as Mashbury (or rather less onsite, it's well situated) but I think their school is better. Good fencing too.

Elms Farm in Roxwell, though I think their turnout is limited... Skreens Park Farm which became an RS, but certainly used to take liveries. Cheap, claim to turnout a lot (I wouldn't know, not much to do with it since it changed hands!) but it was herd turnout and they wanted back shoes off... This was a couple of years back though.

A few yards in Newney Green - Newney Hall which there are better placed people on here to describe ;) Moor end hall (or something?) and possibly more.

I don't think Thatchers is DIY? I thought they only did full.

Number of yards in the Highwood area - Monks and Barrows Farm springs to mind, though they may not have a school, nice hacking though, and others who you'd have to google...

there are also yards in the Waltham area and possibly others which I can't remember off the top of my head...

AVOID NEWLANDS HALL AT ALL COSTS SO CALLED YARD MANAGER IS A TOTAL WASTE OF SPACE, ARROGANT & RUDE ALL SHE IS WORRIED ABOUT IS GETTING HER STABLE FOR FREE, WHEN THE YARD GOT ROBBED LAST YEAR SHE FOUND IT FUNNY? IT WAS OK FOR HER AS SHE DONT DO ANYTHING WITH HER HORSE.
THE OWNERS SIDE KICK ( MAXINE) NICE LADY BUT KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE YARD OR WHATS GOING ON AT THE YARD ONLY CARES ABOUT THE WEDDINGS & FISHING LAKES. APPARENTLY 7 PEOPLE HAVE LEFT IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS THAT SAYS EVERYTHING??
PS THERE IS VERY LIMITED GRAZING THERE THE ONLY PLACE THAT I KNOW THAT HAS A MONTH WINTER PADDOCK?
& VERY LITTLE MANTANACE.......
