Does anyone know of any? I'm told it's a very horsey area and I might be moving there for a year and taking pony with me. Good turnout is more important than facilities :)

Not quite Chorleywood, but very nearby: Coltspring (fab hacking in Whippendell Woods, meet you there!), huuuuuge indoor school. Brilliant turn out. Not the cheapest. Rose stables (?), have heard great things.

The area is very horsy, very near me, I always bump into riders when I take the dogs out. The only trouble is, its very 'country', property can be very expensive and yards can be off the main drag so not totally straightforward to get to. Ae you defo going to be in Chorleywood? Odd choice re transport to your uni? Watford or Bushey would be easier re transport, given it's direct to Euston, Northern line, Waterloo. Not that I stalk you or know where you go to college. Much.
:D

My gran lives in Chorleywood, so free accommodation :D
Otherwise I wouldn't be considering it as I couldn't cope with London rent and livery fees on my student loan! Nothing is decided yet - I just wanted to have a look at yards and see if it would be possible. I miss my pony :(
Thanks for your suggestions :)

Sarratt is fab, especially the Boot pub, not that I ever go out, much less drink. :o

There are lots of yards in that area, you do defo need a car.

My inability to drive might prove problematic :D
I'm pretty sure there are yards walking/ cycling distance from her house so I'll have to investigate when I'm back in the UK. If anyone has any more suggestions in the meantime, I'd love to hear them :D

Catlips farm is in Chorleywood, bit rough and ready but very knowledgable paople. :)

There is a great Indian restaurant in Chorleywood!

You'd need a blinking sturdy bike to get up that drive! Not sure the turnout is so fab? It's a bit tricky to get to, not central Chorleywood!

I don't know what counts as central Chorleywood....my Gran lives near the common and I do see horses out and about a lot, so I'll just have to follow them :D

I just googled it and it's not far from my gran's at all really so I'll definitely pop in when I go and visit her in June :)
I'm not sure about this drive though :D

Cross lanes farm is a lovely yard about a 5 min walk from chorleywood station so i'm guessing its fairly central and easy to get to (i dont know the area very well sorry!)
Went there last week for a trial and possibly going to start working there!
Excellent facilities, 20x60 arena, lungeing arena, solarium, horse walker, nice stables, decent turnout and hacking. They do full, part, diy and grass livery so cater for all budgets and horses, staff are super friendly and competant and run by tammy whos a prix st george (i think) dressage rider.
Would definately reccomend, also dont think its insanely expensive! def worth a look i think :-)

Cross lanes must be more than 5 minutes walk from the station the yard I am at is 15 minutes walk and is nearer than cross lanes to the station

I don't think cross lanes does grass livery though I agree it does seem to be a nice yard. There are 6 or 7 yards on farm road but again I would have thought that would be a 20 minute walk from the station and if you are living near the common that would be even further.

Catlips does do grass livery and has all year turn out and they put out hayledge in the winter too - not so great if your pony is on a diet. There is also a riding club based at Catlips which has lots of events/training as well as a tack shop which could be useful if you don't have a car.

The yard that I am on is super but full with a waiting list.

What type of livery are you looking for? Also in that area at the moment (next door to coltspring!) on a DIY yard, know lots of the yards in the area :)

I have heard they are really expensive - like £70 a week for grass livery!!!

I want DIY, but with the option of someone maybe turning out or bringing in every now and then as I'm not sure what my timetable will be like this year. I can cope with the most basic facilities (ie. no school) so long as there is reasonable turnout :)
Thanks for your help everyone. I'm still not 100% sure I'll be able to manage it, but it's something I really want to look into :)

We used to live in Chorleywood and kept our's at Catlips. Had the best time ever, nice people brilliant owners, very helpfull and allways a lot going on. Turnout was more than ample. It has been 15 years since we moved, now in Somerset, and I still keep in touch and friends from there still come to visit.
