Yards in and around Reading RG6

i live in rg5 :) and you can get to a horsey ish area in about 5 minutes but I think thats in the opposite direction! If I'm right then Earley/Lower Earley is RG6??? Areas such as Hurst/Binfield/Waltham St Lawrence are pretty horsey lots of yards - if not too far for you!

ooooooh good luck! Is the job in Reading?? There are quite a few horsey areas within about 15 mins of the town centre and lots of yards so should have no problems!!! Depends where you chose to live really!

Oooh exciting! I'm in RG6. Lots of people living round here have horses at yards in the surrounding areas (nothing in RG6 itself, it's very built up). My yard is in Hurst, about 12 minutes drive in clear traffic. It's not the cheapest area, DIY would be between £95 and £150 per month depending on facilities. By all means drop me a PM if you'd like to know more about the area, I've lived in RG6 and RG7 for more years than I'd like to admit to!

The job is in RG6, so I'd be looking for some recommendations of nice areas to live - nothing too pricey! But have dogs so a little garden would be nice, but not 100% neccessary!
I currently pay 170 all in for my DIY.

I live very near, have done for years. I can remember when Lower Earley (in RG6) was fields of wheat rather than a housing estate!

The eastern side of Reading - Earley, Maiden Erleigh, Lower Earley, Woodley is pricey but quite a handy area to live if you have a car as there are plenty of yards in the Hurst Binfield Waltham area which is easily accessible, you're not too far from anywhere in Reading. The middle of Reading is an utter traffic jam though, so avoid crossing it in the rush hour or even otehrwise (if you shop, use the park and ride) .

I'd tend to avoid Whitley (poor reputation), and Newtown area (has lots of nice Victorian terraces but almost impossible to find somewhere to park). As you'll want somewhere to walk your dogs, I'd look at Lower Earley - there's paths alongside the River Loddon, and it's easy to get to Hurst area for your horses from there, or Woodley is good too. Both these areas have lots of houses to rent, but it's not cheap. I personally know of about 4 or 5 families who moved to rent in a cheaper area for a better lifestyle (teleworking from home mostly) eg Devon while retaining their house here to rent out at a higher price than they pay down there. You might find the villages of Arborfield (military base) or Shinfield convenient and a little cheaper due to not being so near to the middle of Reading - there are yards around there, and from there you can commute in to some parts of RG6 relatively easily.

Drop me a PM if you get the job, and I can scout the housing rental 'suitable for pets' situation as best friend's brother runs an estate agent.

I grew up in this area...kept my pony at a farm in Arborfield, if you google Bearwood and Cloud riding stables there are a few yards scattered round them. The hacking is ok but if you have transport there is alot more around Bramshill. Would also recommend Lower Earley for somewhere to live, good luck x

I have lived in Earley and my yard is on the edge of Bramshill Forest (Great Hacking and good for walking dogs too).

Depends what you are looking for in a yard and of course the price there are some nice places around. There are also some nice houses to buy.

Give me a PM and let me know where you are going to be working and I can tell you the best places

I live in RG6, and keep the beasties in RG7 (Mortimer). It's about a 20min drive, lovely area, but when it's busy, its hell to cross the motorway and the A33.

I would suggest Lower Earley to live as well, and there are some lovely yards in Mortimer, with excellent hacking
