Yards in Birmingham??

I suppose it depends which side of Birmingham you are on. I drive to the city centre in 25 minutes every Saturday evening from the farm I keep my horse on.

Around here there are loads of places, mostly DIY and all around £20 - £25 per week, not including hay, but some include straw. You get pretty much whatever facilities you want - I am on a beef/dairy farm with practically no facilities, but just down the road there is one with a XC course and a school, another one with a school and a little further away, for about £26 per week is a BHS approved riding school with indoor and outdoor schools, horse walker, off road riding & XC course.

There is quite a bit of quiet/off road hacking, but there is LOTS of agricultural traffic so if you have a horse like mine that is REALLY scared of tractors you have to pick your times and places to ride.

There are plenty of shows, the Atherstone hunt kennels are two miles away and it takes me 35 minutes to drive my horse to my vet (Pool House). We don't struggle for farriers, instructors, equine dentists, saddlers, vets, physio's etc. around here, and as we are right in the middle of the midlands motorway network it's easy to get pretty much anywhere quite quickly.

Having said all that, there are some more up-market subburbs of Birmingham where you may pay more, but my part is around Tamworth/Atherstone/Nuneaton.

Hope that helps!

Birminghan is a big place so you need to be a little more precise as to where you want to go. There are various counties that border Birmingham.

I'm in the same area as Chunkie & there are plenty of yards around here, but not alot of good to you id you were on the other side of Birmingham.

DIY varies from around £20-£30 depending on location & facilities. Some provide hay & straw but the ones I've used you provide all your own. Getting a good Farrier, Dental Technician, & quality equine vet practice in our area is easy.

My yard has individual turnout (not 24hr though), stable, barn storage for hay & bedding, secure tackroom, rugroom, floodlit arena, security lights, CCTV, Power & water, seating area, kitchen, toilet, good hacking & easy access of various competition venues. We also have a groom who will muck out, turnout etc whenever you cannot yourself & you pay her direct. I pay within the prices mentioned.

Hi Chunkie (Katie)! it sounds like you are just down the road from me? Would one of the yards you mention be at Grendon?

Hi T_Z, yes, it would be at Grendon! I know a couple of people there and they all seem very happy. I'm actually in Ratcliffe, which is about 2 miles from there.
