Relocating to wales soon and need to get recommendation of yards in the Pembrey area but willing to travel up to 5 miles for a lovely yard. Ideally full livery but will consider assisted DIY. Want the usual facilities, sandschool, daily turnout, good hacking. Must take well behaved children too :D as I have a 5yr old. Links to websites if yard has them appreciated too as well as cost info xx

Thank you. Pembrey park riding stables looked like great hacking but it being a riding school too put me off a bit. Also looked on their facebook page and there seemed to be a few riders on ponies they were far to heavy for in my opinion. Has put me off a bit but I will visit soon and see. Thanks for the other link xx

Yeah I know what you mean, I think the RS bit would put me off too! Are you actually in Pembrey itself? I have my boy on a livery yard Ammanford way and it's a great environment but might be a bit far dependent on where you are?

We havent moved yet, we like a few houses around Pembrey but ammanford is another area we are considering, I hear they have a good pony club? What livery yard you at and can you tell me any good ones you know of your way as well as ones to avoid. Infact anything about your area would be useful x

Amman Valley PC is great, I used to be a member (years ago!) but it still has a good rep and have loads going on. I'm at Llwyncwn Farm in Betws, it's about 5mins hack from the mountain so masses of odd road hacking, outdoor school, American Barn and really friendly people. I'm not sure of too many others, I only moved back to Wales 2 years ago and only able to get back into horses earlier this year. I live a long way from the yard (22 miles) so I have my boy on full livery there. There are lots of good Riding Clubs in the area too, Gower RC, Cwmaman RC and Clydach RC are the more local ones and there's a number of local XC courses so generally lots going on!

Hope this helps a bit :)

Yeah from what I can gather Amman Valley is great for horsey stuff. Looked at a house near Betws mountain but to be honest the estate agent really put us off saying lots of wind turbines were being built in the area. Should imagine my horses would freak at the sight of one of those on a windy day! Still the house was lovely and we were looking into the turbines further but then the owners took it off the market :( Do you mind me asking, how much is full livery at Llwyncwn Farm? & Thank you for all your help x

Oh & it must be a great yard if u live 22 miles away  There must be closer ones to you which I guess would be on your 'avoid' list? x

In all honesty I don't know any yards where I am (not with the right facilities etc). We live up past Neath and it's all forestry so very little in the way of horseyness :( and before I moved away I had my horses at Llwyncwn so knew the yard and people. I did move him to a closer yard that only did full livery but it was very expensive and very little turnout and my boy got quite stressed with the lack of turnout and lost a lot of weight so after 3 weeks I moved him back to Llwyncwn but as full livery (he was on DIY before that).

As far as the wind turbines go, I haven't heard of anything and there's no signs of them going up although maybe it's a long term plan?

Helen who runs Llwyncwn is on H&H forum if you search for her name as Llwyncwn and send her a PM she'll let you know about the different costings etc :)

Thanks Billy Bob-Sleigh :) You have been really helpful. I like the sound of lots of turn out there :) Will def visit when I am next in Wales, but sadly that wont be till the new year now :( Moving is in the pipeline but we are in no rush. I am getting excited tho and want to research yards more as this will influence where we live (not that other half knows this haha) xx

They are building wind turbines on the mountain near the Upper Lliw reservoir, but there's so much open space around here, I'm not worried about finding the room to avoid them. The worst thing will be the traffic whilst the construction work is underway.

Never had livery here or know anyone who has but it's right by the beach with amazing hacking :)

http://www.pembreyparkridingcentre.co.uk/livery.html

Have been to this area lots for the mountain biking and have been past here many times. The grazing is sparse and those horses I have seen turned out are in pretty much bare paddocks which have lots of saplings in. Obviously there may well be more grazing available which can't be seen but I would definately go with caution.

On the road in to the park there are stables on the right hand side. Again, grazing looks poor due to the nature of where it is located (right on the sea edge). Don't know the name of the place but you can't miss it.

Pembrey park is amazing and I keep promising myself to book a lesson to take advantage of the riding. There is a really good looking XC course throughout the park but think that there are strict usage rules etc.

Just up the road at Pinged, within hacking distance of the park, is a little yard which we have passed before. Again, not sure what it is called but maybe worth looking into.

Where abouts have they started building it? I haven't ridden up there for a while but I didn't notice anything from the road, although I'm not the most observant person in the world :)

From your yard, if you come up the road past the pub, past the picnic site and the pumping station, then on the right just before the road goes downhill again.

At the moment there is a lot of fencing up and a couple of machines digging a hole. It looks like the building will be a couple of hundred yards in from the road - past the pylon. At the top of the canter track :(

That's the best I can do to describe it. I usually confuse people with my directions on the mountain - turn right at the funny shaped gorse bush, go past the scary stone etc etc. I know where I am though.

Oh no our canter path is ruined :( Billy will have something to say about that when he sees it I'm sure...in the way of "you can sod off if you think I'm going anywhere near that!"

Where abouts do you keep yours then?
