wandering..

where you keep your horse how much do you pay per month and for what and area etc.

i pay 125 a month for diy, a stable, a field, a soggy school thats around 20x30 if that lol in hampshire, good hacking, but i hate hacking lol. do you think this is alot of money?

i'm not sure as people just a county or two up have loads more for alot less, but is this just because of where i live?

Depends where about you are in Hampshire but that does sound excessively expensive to me.

My yard was in Hampshire and I charged £70 per month for DIY - stable, tack room etc, good grazing, excellent outriding, schooling area, jumping paddock with full set of jumps.

Yep not too far from where I was based. There has to be somewhere a bit cheaper I would have thought.....I have a mind-block right now but if I think of any yards down that way, I'll pass the names onto you.

Have you tried looking at the website which gives the directories of Livery Yards in the area - it's the Horseweb.co.uk one?

£125 seems alot for diy, especially if the facilties are not 5* i think the top you should be paying for a stable, field, school, jumps, hacking, which are all decent quality should be 70-80 for diy.

Sounds like normal Hants/Sussex prices to me. £125 a month equates to £31.25 a week (based on 4 week month) so that's not that bad considering.

I know someone who keeps their horse just outside Clanfield

I pay £188 per month, this includes, stable, grazing with 24/7 turnout in the summer, use of sand & rubber menage, fab hacking, all hay and a bale of shavings a week.
Plus they feed & turnout everyday, and bring in everyday. I muck out myself but can have it done for me for an extra £10 a week and I buy my own feed.

[*]stable,
[*]1/2 day everyday turnout during winter,
[*]24/7 turnout during summer,

hay &amp; straw is ordered separate from them, they 'deliver' once a week which is an extra £10-15 a week dependng on what grass he has access to &amp; how long he will be in stable for. a typical week is about 4 hay bales &amp; 2 - 3 straw bales

i pay £65 per month (average of £15 pw) which includes:
<ul type="square">
[*]stable
[*]winter grazing (1/2day everyday, whole day every other)
[*]summer grazing (dawn til dusk, 24/7) until 1st November
[*]flood lit school with some SJ jumps
[*]free use of XC course (as part of lessons as wel as just practice)
[*]ok hacking
[*]concrete pen so he can wander about when im mucking out [/list]

i pay for hay/straw on top of that which is about an extra £10-15 a week depending on what grazing he's on &amp; how long he spends in but i usually make it up to 4 bales of hay &amp; 2/3 of straw.

our old place charged
£60 May- end of Sept (incl straw/grazing)
£100 Oct- end of April (incl hay/straw)
no school, but turnout was individual/pairs/threes depending on circumstances but no rotation&amp; V. limited during winter. the horses had to be in from Oct &amp; couldn't go out 24/7 till May (weather depending).

so in comparison im only purchasing what hay/straw I want &amp; when i want it &amp; i can ride on evenings &amp; Linx was out 24/7 til like the 27th Oct this year &amp; only came in as he was fully clipped!

I pay £17pw and get

Stable
Concerete penned off yard off stable (claustorphobic)
Tack/feed room
Floodlit School (extra charge although minimal)
Turnout individual or group makes no odds to the money
Good Hacking

Hay/shavings/straw and haylage available from YO for extra

All in all I think mine is reasonable for the area.
