So finally have a sharer for samba :)

Those with sharers do u have contracts?

All I have said is 2 days a week which we will arrange monthly as we both shift work.

Her to have BHS gold insurance or similar

To pay me 1st of month. (Paying per ride until 1st feb)

For hacking and schooling incl jumping only. Ie no competing unless previously arranged

Anything else I need to consider ans should I put it in a small contract?

I don't have a formal written contract but I do have an e-mail where I set out my rules and gave her my bank details for the standing order so it's clear that's expected.
Rules.
1. BHS gold membership
2. Hi-viz to be worn at all times out on the roads.

That's it. As far as I'm concerned on her days he's hers. As long as he doesn't suffer, she can do what she wants with him.

Get a contract from the BHS website and adjust to fit, it saves hassle in the long run for everyone IMO and it's down in black and white what is and is not expected from both parties. Also what about something about giving a notice period?

As a sharer myself I brief outline of what IS expected payment method notices.

What happens in case of items broken ect.

What happens if sharer cant do their day is livery paid for ect.

This then covers both party's and you have something to refer back to if anything comes up in the future.

Only caution on notice period is that, if for any reason you wanted her to stop riding (e.g. partnership didn't work out, long term horse health issue,...) it would be best if you could cancel the share with no notice. So, you may not want for her to have to give you much notice either just to make it 'fair'.

Having said that I've always given/received a reasonable amount of notice with both no contract at all and one written by a lawyer.

Cash could be tricky if being left in e.g. a shared tack room. If you see each other anyway that can be fine but otherwise bank transfer is usually easiest for both.

You might want to consider what happens if sharer goes on holidays (I've usually kept paying) or if horse is unridable due to illness/pulled shoe/conditions at yard/whatever (I've usually kept paying if it is a fortnight or less but had the money waived if anything longer term).

I am a sharer as such.

It started off with a family friend who I used to ride for years ago saying I could ride her horse as I was saying I wanted to get back into it, and her saying she didn't have as much time to ride these days.

I don't have set days, I just text her if I want to ride, and she texts me if I she can't get up to the stables so i need to go up an sort nets/water out (they live out all year round)

I don't pay her anything, although odd times I buy feed/give money towards shoes/buy odd bits of tack.

Although there is no contract in place, I respect her wishes , ie knee boots must always be worn, hi viz etc.

I always ask her before changing any tack/bits.

I know its not always the case, but hopefully we both trust each other enough for things to be ok with out one. She knows Im not going to hammer the horse about and have enough common sense!

If I was to go out looking for a sharer and it was more set in stone with days/money etc I would definatly want a contract
