My 28yo tb lost quite a bit of condition in feb this year so i started her on Baileys No1, ive just finished the 2nd bag and she looks wonderful, not a rib in sight. I am so pleased i will take some piccies and post them. Sorry pointless post but i am so chuffed with how she looks a bit of spring grass and she will be blooming.

is it in cube form? My mare is the same shes just lost loads of weight and her appetite shes just started to eat baileys number 4 just wondered if the no1 was worth it as well!

No it looks like bread crumbs, she loves it its very palatable. She has good muscle tone for her age. the blurb is.. A highly digestible, non-heating complementary feed for promoting weight gain and condition. Ideal for older horses with dental problems or those recovering from surgery.

Keltic, did you realise that wheat thirds (also sometimes called wheat sharps I think) is the same as Number 1, just in a more natural state, but around half the price?
The product does have a high phosphorous to calcium ratio, but as long as you add a broad spectrum vitamin/mineral supplement to it, it is fine for short term use on older horses.

If you have a general agricultural store near you, or a mill store, it might be worth asking.

ooh, i've used it all winter too, have been really pleased with it, but didn't realise you could get the same thing cheaper!
thanks dubble!

No.1 is cooked to make it more digestible. Wheat thirds will not be cooked so are less digestible and could cause problems if over fed. I would stick with the branded product even if it does cost a bit more.

I LOVE this stuff! My ned nearly died two years ago and looked like a hat rack afterwards. He'd always been fed No 1 in the winter to help keep his weight topped up so I fed it too him while recovering and lept feeding it for a good while after and he now looks craking! He's another oldie at around 24/25!
