I hope this doesn't sound like a self indulgent post, I don't mean it to, just so pleased with my new horse
We bought her just over 3 months ago in a really poor condition. She had raced then came over to England and evidently hadn't really been looked after. We gave her a month off to eat and get used to us, then slowly bought her into work with gentle hacks, working up to gentle schooling and some jumping. She is now a really lovely horse with a kind temperment, fit, healthy and nearly up to weight.
I took her on her first outing on Sunday to a PC ODE and she was a superstar
She loaded well and happily ate while we waited for our DR class. She is very green (raced, was re-schooled, came to us) so I didn't ask for much during the test, just for her to listen to me and be forward going. She had also never seen a DR arena before. She did a lovely test and we scored 40.4% (winner got 35%) which far exceeded my expectations, I was amazed.
She was very calm in the SJ warm up, despite a small pony crashing into us! We went into the SJ arena, with me thinking she was going to spook/be strong/be fizzy and her acting like a pro. We had one runout which was down to me forgetting to stear at the double but she was so well behaved and jumped really nicely.
She then stood quietly by the trailer while we waited for our X-country class. She was really well behaved again in the X-co warm up. Cantered without pulling and stopped easily
It took us a while to leave the start box but managed to get her going with some encouragement from my family. She was a bit spooky, having never seen a X-co course before, but she settled into a lovely rhythm after the 3rd fence and we went clear around the rest of the course. She then got loads of cuddles and treats from everyone!
Sorry for the really long post (sheepish smiley) I'm just so impressed with how much she has learnt and what a lovely horse she has turned out to be. She is even sensible enough for my 10 yr old sister to hack her
Thanks for reading!
This is a pic of her x-co..
