Yearling colt with no sign of b***s - is this unusual??

We think that our boy is in training to become the first horse version of a Ladyboy of Bangkok ..... he is just over 12 months, and apart from a very quick 1/2 day glimpse of one, which disappeared as soon as it was spotted, he shows no signs of his testicles descending. He's put to shame by the 3 day old colt who is already showing clear signs of his maleness .....

Should we be worried, as they say in magazines? ( Tactful advice needed from more experienced breeders, as we don't want to hurt his feelings

They could be retained, our 2yo had one that would not drop, so he had to undergo an op.

Ours in nearly one and has just dropped. Give him a month, then if they still haven't dropped call a vet.

it is certainly more unusual but he could be hanging on to them tightly! one of ours only had one ball for a long time, he was almost 2 when it half dropped, wasnt fully there but vet got at it

My colts only dropped fully at 11 months, but one was a bit smaller. He was castrated at 12 months and the vet found that the small one was back to front

. I'd give him another couple months and then talk to the vet.

Can you feel them? If you saw the one, it could be that they are not too far away. In which case they will drop enough to be cut if the vet injects them.

Panick not, my 3 year old colt was still a one baller until the end of last year!!!!!!!!!!! We know it was there as it often made a short appearance, we went though months of now you see me, now you don't.

I find that if you have a big gangly inmature youngster that is putting lots of effort into growing, they are prone to hanging on to their childhood for a bit longer.

On the other hand I had a colt foal a couple of years ago that I had castrated at 4 months as he was a little s**t and pulled all the other foals to the ground and pinned them there. He even tried to mount his mother several times. His full brother was the same, he was castrated early too.

Definitely not something to worry about at only a year old. It's very individual to each colt. Last year I had three two year old colts - one had had them since birth, one only had one, and the other had none! By this spring, all three of them had a complete set.

Thanks cruiseline and everyone, much reassured ... given his size, he obviously is concentrating on growing upwards and NOT growing other things! Never mind, he's such a sweet chap, at least it puts off the surge of testostorone for a little while!
