My new yearling, been with us a month now. Has settled in lovely, he is so calm, he shows up all the grown up horses!

However, he has gone terribly itchy, and his skin is awful, scruffy, scurfy and flakey, everywhere, lumpy, you name it.

I'm wondering whether its the change, and the stress, or change in breed of midges or something??

What could it be, and how shall I treat it?

Sounds like a liberal coating of louse powder might be in order!! The very young and the very old are the most prone to lice so yours fits the bill, he probably arrived with them and they have done a grand job of multiplying as his winter coat grows in. Check in and under his mane, thats usually the easiest place to spot them.

Mine did this in february...he is very laid back which i think can mask stress re changes such as a move..new feed etc....de loused him lots though i couldnt ever see any nor could vet...took him off youngstock mix and put him on yearling cubes and he improved really quickly
