Hiya
I have a yearling filly that is out in the field during the day and in at night. She is stabled rather than out in a field 24/7 like other horses her age as she is showing in yearling classes and I need her to be handled every day etc and kept clean!
She rolls excessively and loves getting herself cast! She lies upside down looking at me and waiting to be pulled over! I wonder if the fact that she has a very thick shavings bed with massive banks makes her worse and whether she'd be better to have rubber matting and minimal bedding to discourage her???
The other thing she does is if her friend, that she is particularly attached to, comes out of her stable before her, even to be groomed on the yard insight of my filly, she rolls and rolls and rolls and rolls until she's brought out herself. It's almost like a vicey attention seeking thing but she's never been left on the yard all by herself and even when her friend goes out there's other horses to see. It's got to be highly annoying as I have to be the first one down the yard in the morning to get her out of her stable before anything else comes out for fear of her getting cast when I'm not around myself! Other people are too nervous to pull her over again and shouldn't have too! She can get bolshy and start bucking when she gets up and I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt.
Does anyone have any ideas???
