just wondered my 14th month old Connemara has been diagnosed with melnoma ( inner buttock) . He has seen the vet who will remove it once it's grown . I've never heard of something so young getting melnoma before and wondered if anybody else had? I've looked in line and can't find anything documented . Vet said he hasn't seen it in something so young either .

Has the lump been biopsied? Has the lab confirmed that it's melanoma or not?

I ask because my (young) grey has had a few lumps removed that the Vet thought were melanoma, but after histology, they were found to be fungal.

No biopsy as he would require sedation Vet said let it grow a neck on it and he will remove it . He is pretty sure as he can be without a biopsy that it's melnoma it in no way appears fungal to me . And has all the characteristics of melnoma plus it suddenly appeared during his current growth spurt . Plus I've not long treated him with deOsect.

Here's one of them before removal. Does it look fungal to you? It fooled the Vet.

I'm just saying that although your Vet might be completely right and your horse does have a melanoma, until it's looked at properly by a lab, you don't actually know for certain what it is.

I realise that no biopsy to confirm makes the statement it's a melnoma precarious poor choice of words on my part . It's grown so quick

Sorry posted too soon . How old is your horse ? I hope the vet is wrong and it is fungal . Can you tell me how to post a photo please?

Older than yours. I think she was three when she grew her first lump. They have all been protruding lumps that are round and grow quickly. She's had quite a few removed now, mainly from her head and neck. She did have a lump on one of her buttocks (looked similar) but it fell off, so was never sent to the lab.

ETA for photos I upload to photobucket (but a similar photo hosting site is fine) and then post the IMG code in the forum reply box. :)
