our yearlings are out 24/7 except for a few hours each morning. today we brought them in and decided to leave them in until tea time ,basically to let have more hay to eat as the spring grass lacks fibre. Went to turn out a short while ago and noticed one of them has a very large swelling on his hock, bog spavin. Yesterday the farrier trimmed his feet,he is a heavy breed and quite post legged. Has anyone any experience of this? We got him out of his box and led him around to see if heis lame and I think the sweeling went down slightly so we turned him out. with a friend, and will go back in half an hour to check and see if its reduced. He is slightly lame but bright in himself with no temperature so I dont think its an infection. My vet book says that it could be OCD and some cases get better on their own, others need surgery. I wonder if he just pulled/twisted his joint yesterday? Should I get the vet to visitor leave it a bit to see if theres an improvement?
