I have just noticed my Irish Draft Gelding has developed a yellow deposit or blemish on either side of his tongue next to his teeth. His teeth were checked 5 months ago and deemed absolutely fine - anyone any ideas what this might be?

My horse had a simular proplem a few years ago. The vet said they were ulcers caused by a herpes virus and would go in there own time. He also had them on the inside of his mouth. If you are sure that it's not his teeth rubbing then it could be the same thing. They took about a month to go.

The most probable answer is ulcers caused by the tongue running over the canine teeth. Lift the lip of your horse and see if the dentist has actualy worked on them. If he has he should have reduced them in size and rounded the tops off. If he hasn't then there is a good chance that the canines are causing the problem.
