Hi,

Clipped my horsey over the weekend, and she went out yesterday a bit over rugged (not my fault!). Went to turn her out this morning and she was very itchy. When I stripped her stable rugs off, noticed a couple of small areas of yellow crusty bits, doesnt seem to have broken the skin but it quite itchy.
A patch on her crest, a patch just above tail and also on her shoulder.
What could it be? think i will give the areas a wash with some antibacterial and perhaps give her a de-lousing too...

I only mentioned it as my lad had it when I first got him. AT first neither myself or the vet thought it was RW there were no perfect round patches.
In the beginning it only showed up after clipping. Just the odd bit here and there, Then it began to spread, but the new ones looked like tiny fly bites or a reaction to something

I would treat it as fungal. get some athletes foot cream or spray and see what happens

Hi,
it could be a reaction, but she has never had one before.
Il check it tonight and see whats been going on today. I rugged her a little less to stop her from overheating today.
Il give it an antibacterial wash tonight and go from there..
Thanks guys!!

Mine had this repeatedly a few years ago- we had scrapings taken as the lesions were like boils with a yellow fluid (which dried to a crust).

The decision was he was suffering from a staphylococcus aureus skin infection which had been primarily brought on by mites in the straw we were using.

I was super aware of this the second and third time it made an appearance and a course of trims from the vet was enough to prevent it taking hold; the previous summer he lost all his facial hair, and the top layers of skin across most of the face and jugular area due to staph infections- I am now very aware of little yellow lesions!

whatever it is and i am sure you may never know! you could try an antibacterial wash and then a couple of days later an antifungal wash just to cover everything make sure you wash the rug too !
