Probs asked a thousand times before but....are they really worth the money?

I need some new boots for college, for yard work and wearing in the winter. I might as well go the whole way and spend lots of money (well, my dads money

) on a good pair of boots rather than cheap boots that will need replacing everytime.

Thanks

I am on my second pair of ariat yard boots and just brought a pair of Dubarry's not sure I'd be wearing the Dubarry's for all the time round the yard, love mine though.

Schpug, I'm on my second pair of Dubarrys. They are incredibly comfortable but they really don't stand up to getting wet all the time. Both of mine have cracked across the top of the foot after quite a short time, in spite of meticulous care. I do use mine mainly for walking though - about two hours of dogwalking a day - and I have a very long stride which does increase the flexion on the toe. I would think that for yard work and casual wear they would probably last better, but you do need to take care of them!

I have a pair of Dublin River boots- their version of the Dubarry's- and mine have lasted better than the Dubarry's of others at the yard for 1/2 the price! I love them, they are really comfortable, not even too hot to wear on rainy summer days (Of which we get a few over here in NI!)
Would highly recommend them- I think you can get them on ebay for £99, mine were half price - £60 - in a sale because one of the eyelets around the drawstring at the top was missing - BARGAIN - who needs eyelets more than they need £60???.....

I have a just bought a pair (or rather OH bought them for me

) and I am thrilled with them. They are so comfy and super for wearing to work, then going straight to the yard in.

However, I have heard that they are more for "posing" and not very good for general everyday yard abuse, ie, getting used like a pair of wellies.

My Le Chemeu wellies are fab however - I have the neoprene lined ones and they are awesome, my feet are never cold, and they stand up to a lot of abuse.

At the end of the day leather will rot when it comes in contact with all the nasty things at the yard. No matter how well you look after it, it will not stand up to the abuse us horsey people put it through. My reccomendation for an all round yard boot/riding boot would have to be the mountain horse rimfrost paddock boot. They are waterproof, warm, comfy (although a bit heavy) and you can do all your yard work and ride in them too. They are not made from leather so do not rot, and last a lifetime.

I have some Tuffa Suffolks, they are so comfortable and are fab for all yard jobs. Totally waterproof as well! I bought them off the internet for around £110 - so much cheaper........I have big calfs and the 'regular' Dubarry's don't fit, if they did I'm sure I'd have a pair just for posing in!! All the people I know who have bought them love them and have purchased more as they do last.

I wouldnt be mucking out in them as such, they will just be used for walking around the yard like when we have practical demonstrations etc and other sort of stuff like that

Ditto that - I have both Dubarrys and Tuffa Suffolks and live in the Tuffas as they are sooo comfy, waterproof and warm - I keep the Dubarrys for non muddy situations but they do NOT keep your feet warm like the Tuffas!

No they definately aren't worth it in my opinion. I have had 3 pairs in a year, admittedly replaced by the company each time, but the 3rd pair is now leaking badly after 2 months. They are a difficult & slow company to deal with and because of the hassle involved I won;t be replacing the latest pair. They do look very pretty etc etc but if they get wet or muddy regularly they simply cant cope and for the money they cost it really isn't satisfactory. I have also had Ariat Grassmeres and they are BRILLIANT, can't fault them at all.

I wanted Dubarrys but ended up with the Ariat Grassmere instead & I'm so pleased with them. They're so comfy & at 9months old they still look like new. I was really good about cleaning them at first & they were done every week but now I'm down to about once every 3weeks & they still look like new. I do all my yard jobs & ride in them, they also come dogwalking. My feet have survived 12hour days at various shows & walking round Badminton in them & I always have comfy, dry feet.
