1300 bales of superb hay all in the barn. It smells so good I could eat it myself :D
Not without incident though.

Tractor fuel pump failed, letting diesel into the engine oil,

One of the drive belts snapped on the disc mower wrapping around the other 3 and breaking them too,

Hit a post with the tedder/rake bending 3 of the arms. I had to ask my neighbour to finish putting it in lines.

The PTO shaft snapped on the baler twice,

The baler blades overlapped and went BANG and broke all the shear bolts.

My daughter's boyfriend snapped one of the gear levers off the tractor.

Ran out of baler twine half way through and had to phone around to find more and race off to get it.

Oh the joys of using your own (rather old) equipment.

Ended up with twice the amount I got last year.

The luckiest thing ever (for me) is that yesterday a whole of ripe wheat went up in flames in the field next to mine. The farmer neighbour was flail cutting the perimeter of the field so the combine could get to the edges easier. when he picked up a piece of barbed wire in the flails; this caused a spark and up it all went. There were 30 firefighters yesterday. Still some there today damping down

Blimey! Sounds like you were EXTREAMELY lucky to get it all in... as for the field of wheat going up :O - poor farmer!

I think this years hay crop is going to be a bumper one all round - all the rowed up fields around us have rows like mountains as opposed to mole hills of last year!

What's your acreage out of interest?

I flew into Heathrow yesterday, and it looked like every field as far as the eye could see had been mown - and on the drive back up to the Northwest! Hopefully thats the hay crisis over! Lets now cross our fingers for some good straw..x

A bit too close for comfort :eek::eek: a whole field of wheat, about 30 round bales of straw and 2 stubble fields lost (thankfully not mine). I'm soooo lucky my hay is tucked up safely in the barn. the fire came within 50mtrs of my fence. Fortunately the wind was blowing the other way. We had to bring the horses up to the top field as they were down there at the time.
