Yet again...another weight issue.

Calli is 16hh and is 3 YO. I don't intent to back her untill at least 3 and 1/2.
She is not chunky probably inbetween fine - medium.
I was just wondering what you think the maximum weight is fair for her to carry at that age when she wont be fully developed.
I weight too much to get on her so am currently loosing weight.

Well G is a similar build and was backed by a 6ft 1 bloke who prob weighed about 13/14st+ tack? He was fine

He was backed at 3 1/2 and was 16hh and half and inch!!

I'm 5ft 9 but weigh less than that. Was just wondering as mum said 11st with tack but i was thinking less

Nah, you'll be fine. My friend backed her 12hh welsh section A, she is dead skinny but tall and weighed about 10st+tack and he was fine!!

I'm not exactly lightweight and G has never struggled, even when I first got him as a 3 and half yr old!! You will only be working in very short spells to start with anyway. Aslong as you are balanced you could well "ride lighter" than someone that isnt balanced and weighs alot less.

Hmmm, you sound to be the same size as me (I'm 5'9" too) and I'm not big (range between 11.5 and 12 st). I used to ride a young and green 4 year old mare in Canada (I was 13st in Canada) and my friend's 4 year old here without any problem.

Your Mum will be fine to ride Calli - she should be able to carry up to at leat 13 stone.

Mum wont ride her until shes properly backed. It will just be safer for me to fall off and break bones than my mum.
