I am contemplating selling my boy for various reasons but not through any fault of his own, mostly because of my job, time etc….

As most horse owners I think my boy is the best thing since sliced bread and is priceless to me, but what other people think is a different matter!!

This is the ad that I have written what do you think? And what would people be willing to pay, I have a figure in my head but after a comment from someone on my yard about his age I am doubting myself now.

<font color="blue"> 17.1 13 year old bay gelding, totally genuine handsome horse, has hunted, SJ, ODE, RC club events etc does very well with local and county showing and enjoys dressage, last prelim test scoring 64.8% Albert is fantastic in traffic easy to handle, good with the farrier, catch, clip, bath travels in trailer or lorry, vaccinations, worming etc up-to-date. I have owned Albert for 6 years and was my first horse after having ponies all my life and has been an absolute joy to own, and has taught me a lot. Don’t be put off by his size I am 5’3”and find him no problem to ride.
This is a genuine and heartbreaking sale of my wonderful boy, please no timewasters joy riders or dealers 5* home is a must for a lovely kind hearted boy.

Thanks for your help

Awwww he's gorgeous!!
I would be wanting to know what level he has jumped at / done everything to / what classes he has been shown in, other than that the advert is very nice with no 'put-offs', but I would also perhaps put who he would be suitable for?
Although Im not sure about price, I agree that his age makes a bit of a difference.

As you said he has done dressage, ideally i would like to see a flat pic in a snaffle if you have a nice one? And if you are allowed to put 3 pics up, a jumping one would be good aswell. And i would agree with what was said before, what height to you school at/compete at with jumping?

Its hard for a price,I'm no good at thinking of prices. Unfortunately with his age and size will be putting some potential owners off, but about £4k? This could easily change when you say about the jumping etc, and if he is a great schoolmaster with really good manners this would be higher too. i hope this is close to your figure, but as i said without knowing more i have chosen a lower figure

Ad looks good but you should include the level he's competed at - I would be wanting to know what size he's competed at SJ and XC and how he's done.

Assuming he's good for the open classes at most unaffiliated shows and so competing up to 3ft6 then I would personally price him around £4000-4500, possibly up to £5000 if he really is 100% pushbutton in every way and you find the right buyer but it might be too much in the current market considering his age. From your ad he sounds like a fun, genuine allrounder, but if he is really superb in any area and you make that clear, then he may be worth more.

Thanks RV I haven't put anythjing about his level I had thought that I could field those questions if someone enquired about him. But now you have said that I will add it in.

He is totally genuine and honest this is what is the only thing I have doubts about selling him for. I am worried that i will regret selling him

Can you not put him out on loan for a bit whilst you decide?
He does look lovely and if he's as genuine as you say.....

I recently sold a 17hh Irish Sport Horse, 9yo who sounds very similar to your lad. Anyone could get on and ride him, including kids! He had won some major shows, and been placed second at HOYS, but subsequently fell off a lorry ramp and scarred his leg, so could no longer show. He passed a full five stage vetting though, and was a fantastic eventer. We sold him for £3250, which might have been a bit cheap, but horses just aren't really selling in our area at the moment.

I would say between £3500 and £4000 for your lad - if he was younger you could probably ask double, but I have found that once they get into double figures, the price drops rapidly.

What a lovely chap.
I sold a similar stamp 2 years ago (12yo 16.3/17hh) for £5500 if that helps, although I'd say I'm better located for selling than you are. I would say at least 4K for yours but wouldn't be surprised if you got more.

Agree about adding the levels. He looks nice, but not sure if I like the first pic. Do you have one fully side on for a confo shot pref without tack on? Just think the angle of the pic isn't showing him at his best.
Good luck whatever you decide, if you think you may have time in the future then loan or share could be an option. No idea on price, but 13 isn't that old!
