Okay so I hunted once last season and just wanted a little but of help!!
I'm forteen and only own a black jacket, my local hunt isn't very strict so I should be ok with that???
I ride a pony that is a bit annoying, he doesn't like to stand still any advice??
He isn't clipped altough overweight is fairly well bred and suits a free mane do i need to plait??
Do I need a hairnet (i hate them) or can I do a neat bun??
Any other tips or hints greatly appreciated thanks!!

So long as you are neat and tidy no one will worry about details- a tweed jacket is correct but if you only have a black on then that should be OK. Be aware though that some hunts are only wearing tweed now post ban, so maybe check with the sec. if you dont want to be the odd one out! Again, no one will worry about a pony not being plaited and post ban many hunts are casual now anyway. Hairnet or neat bun would be equally OK. Can you try to get his weight down a bit before hunting him as it will put extra strain on his legs? If he is liable to fiddle about try and keep him away from other horses as he might get kicked. Other than that, enjoy!

thanks appreciate it :)
Might try and borrow another jacket but thats the best I can do!
On the subject of his weight, I have had him on a small part of the field but he jumps out and despite nearly daily exersise his weight doesn't change.
thanks again x

That's OK let us know how you get on! The more you hunt, the more your pony will settle (usually!) Re; the escaping, my mare always got over/through electric fencing and was overweight, she was fine for many years but then got laminitis last year which was a horrible experience. Apparently, being overweight long-term gradually increases the risk of laminitis so do be careful; perhaps you can get a little starvie paddock with permanent fencing built which is what we had to do with ours? Good luck..

Wear whatever you have in your wardrobe as you are a teenager. People would not be so lenient with an adult. However, please DO wear a hairnet. There is nothing worse than a "mermaid" floating around - and it costs nothing to buy a Hair Net.
Unless your Pony is an M&M (or Hogged), then, yes, you do need to plait.
If "pony" is being a prat then do stay at the back and think about your next move. Which Pack do you hunt with??

MrWoof, some packs- including my local- don't plait up any more; post ban, we dress as per Autumn and Spring hunting! Plus I dont think it is expected/correct to plait an unclipped pony anyway...

hey, dont worry about only having a black jacket, children can generally get away with it, especially if its the only thing you have.
A hairnet does look best , but a smart bun is acceptable as long as your hair is above your shoulderline it should be fine:)
if your pony is a bit fidgety try walking in small circles if possible it keeps them occupied and concentrating on something else rather than what they can cause trouble to next!
and about the plaiting , if your pony is unclipped you should be alright for not plaiting, however it is curteous to plait yet many people nowadays dont, you'll find some do and some dont...
and remember have fun :)
