Sorry I know this has been done to death.. but Im stuck in a bit of wonder as to what I should be feeding my TB... the others all seem fit, healthy and blooming.. Its just my Tb I cant get his feed right

He's healthy as in his coat is glossy and shiny and hooves are better than ever! He's not what I call skinny, but could do with a little extra sspice. He's not being worked at the moment however am looking to start bringing him back into work once this snows melted and from behind you can really tell he's lacking muscle.

He's feed regime is:

Half scoop c&c
half scoop alfalfa
1/4 scoop EquiJewel
and just put him on barley rings about 1/4 scoop (im not sure what effect it will have on his temperament so starting off slowly with it)
Linseed oil and garlic granules.

The above is what he gets per feed; he gets am and pm feeds.

He's then on adlib haylage.

Think I could be doing better or could cut out somethng and replace with something else?? It sounds tight but if I can find a feed combination that would also cut costs a bit that would be great, however thats the least important thing really, Id rather have him looking chubby than worry about saving a few pence...

Thank you for any suggestions.

I would start by dropping the barley and doubling the C&C and alfa a. I'd also drop the garlic as it can irritate the gut, and add yea sacc to help his digestion.

As above :-) That doesn't sound like very much for a TB in mid winter, my Natives are having more than that (although they are in work!)

Try double & see how you get on. I personally really like A&P's Fast Fibre for putting on weight.

I just worry abut over loading the poor guy with food, I dont want to end up putting food in him only to find it comes out of the other end..

I'll try doubling his food but splitting it into 3 feeds instead of 2.

What about trying coolstance coprameal? Ive heard it does wonders for them, however I have also heard it turns some horses bonkers.. anyone have any experience of this?

i might also look at getting back on Baileys no.4, instead of the c&c as that work well for him when he was in full work couple of winters ago... :/

Bring on summer when I can get him out in a field full of fresh summer grass :)

I believe the calculation for the maximum amount of feed that should be fed in one go is 0.5kg (dry weight) per 100kg of bodyweight. Half a scoop of c&c is not much - don't be fooled by the fact that it expands when soaked - most of that is water.
