Went down this morning as per usual to find the buggers had burst through the elec tape again
in the corner of the field covered by a sheet is an old haylage bale, and yes you guessed it, my mare had obviously been munching on it
(now at this time i didnt know - normally they dont touch it) so my mare was standing in the field looking sorry for herself, she ate her breakfast and she munching hay and seemed okay. WEnt down afterwards (around 4) for tea time and my mare was munching hay but she seemed not too look right, bopught her to the gate and she wasnt interested in her tea
called the vet and whilst i was waiting for him to come it suddenly dawned on me that she must have eaten the haylage
vet came and confirmed my suspicions, gave her a shot and said she will be okay after an hour or so.
I looked at her, looked at the mud, seen it was bleedin -3 and she was cold despite 3 rugs
i rang the person who offered me a stable for the winter and took her there tonight. Shes now cosy and warm in a warm stable and looks miles happier
shes in for the winter now
She just isnt coping, shes a dainty TB with a little coat and has lost condition big time, hoping in a few weeks i willl have a lovely weighty TB who should be alot happier
