Why is it when you decide to move livery yards for personal reasons and have got on well with the Yo and other liverys for over a year, that when you give your notice in you become a monster with two heads, low bedding, less hay, not talking etc,so immature of Yo's to get on like this makes life so horrible when you have to give a months notice

Its fine why you are paying over a £1000 a month but once they know thats been taken away all hell lets lose !!!

Wow, £1000 a month

... hoow many horses to you have?

I have only had a YO go stroppy on me once and that was when I said I was leaving immediately as they couldn't ensure my pony's safety.

It ended up in court

but I won

, so all good.

The irony of it, he went bankrupt months later, couldn't have happened to a nice bloke

Why ARE you paying over £1000 A MONTH!!!! I had my youngster on breaking livery with an eventer/BHS I and he didnt charge me that much - and my horse was competed, and really difficult!

I would move!

I can think of 2 maybe 3 in this area that charge that or at least very close. Not ones I would go to I might add.

My last yard got a bit like that - I was OK as my yard manager was with me when I was advised to move Frankie out of the area due to his allergies but when a couple of people decided to follow me there was a definite atmosphere.

hang on your paying a £1000 a month....I think I'd be in a strop if you just handed in your notice come to think of it!

maybe they can't deal with your departure and are now suffering from depression?

on a serious note, its a shame to loose friendships when you have to leave for personal circumstances, yes it is childish.

I find it strange when YO get funny about people moving for perfectly good reasons - doesn't exactly encourage you to move back there if your situation changes back! Haven't had it happen to me but have seen it happen to other people when they have moved yards.

That is sooo common. I've had that all the time and i'm sure its because you are taking considerable income away from them. One yard even locked my horses in and I had a nightmare time. I paid my notice and left cos of the bad atmosphere and I was worried they'd do something to my horses.

Horse people can be very odd and are best avoided, I've always thought the nicest people in horses are those that work outside the industry and have horses as a hobby. I think it appears that sometimes people who work with horses spend so much time with animals they forget ( or never learn ) how to interact with people.

Its very short sighted cos people move yards for all different reasons and might have moved back if they had left under good circumstances.

It's weird isn't it. I've had this a couple of times. Some people take it so personally.

One yard I was on was a night mare, YO complete cow, no grazing. So 5 of is found a small livery that had just been built just up the road. We all handed our notice in and she chucked us off the yard on the spot. So moved all 5 horses and all their kit that day!!

The odd one might be slightly insane, but most are lovely.
My last YO bought me a leavign present and a card signed by everyone, was nearly in tears,LOL!

Just try to keep in mind that you wont be there much longer, smile and be nice even when she is a cow-dont let her childish behaviour draw you into doing something that will hurt your reputation

I just moved yards recently and experienced the exact same attitude from my ex YO. I had a post up here about arriving up to find all horses distressed and gagging of thirst. No water in any stables. This among other things was the final straw and I found another yard. But I decided to take the high road and say to YO that I was moving as other yard is closer to home. I could have ripped her a new one for leaving my horse without water, but I didn't bother. She then had the nerve to ignore me for my last week. Like I could be suprised at that behaviour from a woman that would neglect horse in that manner. Grrrr.

We moved twice.

One I moved on trial as it was a long way from home, so there was always the option to go back as I was still paying on the stable.

The other yard the yo was such a nightmare, I told her on Friday and left on the saturday. I think I had a week to go on rent, but didn't care if she took me to court. I wrote down the reasons why I wanted to leave the yard and there was 17 valid reasons to move, so I would have turned up in court with my list.

I've never been on a livery yard which hasn't been like this

Although none of them made anywhere near that much off their customers!

They usually chuck people off sooner than they want to leave, or ignore them and slag them off until they go. One YO then accused the owner of my then-share of stealing when they moved. Which they didn't. Why would they steal a cheapo tiny pony bridle when they had a 16.2 WB? Nut jobs.

Not exactly the way to get more customers when you speak to people like that is it?

What a shame, surely other people at your yard aren't giving you the cold shoulder too? It's always a pity when things end up like this, maybe it's another positive to add to your list of reasons for moving though, if this is your YO's true colours coming through!?
Good luck with the move xxx
