The current JRT’s bestest boyfriend is an Akita 😳. Talk about worrying about your dependent’s choice of boyfriends.

This Akita does seem to be amenable. They’ve only met on lead and at a safe distance, but she squeaks with excitement every time she spots him, and goes all love sick, it’s very embarrassing.

I don’t trust them at all.

We have an Akita x GSD. He is my OH's dog, I thought it was a really bad idea but his friend accidentally bred some pups from his two dogs and OH really wanted one. Yogi turned out to be the softest dog ever (thankfully). His only flaw with humans is that he tends to wee himself with excitement when meeting someone new or exciting - he's 2 1/2 now and still doing it. He's quite dominant with strange dogs though, although if they submit there's no issue. If he came face to face with another dominant dog there could be trouble but obviously we've never let that happen so not tested it.

Thankfully I think he's inherited more of the GSD side.

I admit to not knowing much about Akitas. They are 'inscrutable', you just can't read them. Everyone I know who knows one says they are lovely gentle dogs though.

Another breed I don't like or trust.

The only breed I was ever asked to sign a destruction order for. Pitbulls were rife and about to be banned, XL bullies didn't yet exist, the Akita had bitten people in the past, had owners who gloried in having an aggressive dog, took her to a picnic and tied her to a tree and told people not to touch her. Didn't that go well.
