http://www.cravencountryride.co.uk/ - looks good just wondered if anyone had been and what the water and XC fences are like? Is there lots of hacking, hills etc?
Not been there personally, but several of my students have and have always spoken very highly of it. Undulating terrain, with a good range of fences I believe.
It's just up the rd from us , we offer over night stays to anyone wanting to taste the craven ride or southposrt/blackpool mary towley loop, but in answer to your question yes its a lovely place and grandma makes biccies ,for the brew room, you help your self to and make a donation in a jar and make your own brews, lovely arga in there too!
I prefer to Somerford (and I love Somerford) as you have lots of wide open space, really good hills, great jumps, lovely views and the going is always good.
I prefer when there isn't a funride on - can get a little mobbed
its fab, lots of hills, a schooling field a main water complex and smaller water crossings and the ground is well cared for. David runs it is very nice and friendly and very accomodating.
The only thing is its a pig to get to. I'm in bradford and its just as quick to get to sommerford (which is also great)
I dont think there is anything else to compare it to in the area, escrick is nice but its more of an off road hack than anything else
It looks great, and I didn't realise you could go any day, but its a lot more expensive than Somerford... That said, it looks like a proper XC course with grass and hills, whereas Somerford is on a surface for half the way round.
I went a couple of years ago just really for something different to do and do some xc at the same time. It was ok and I think if you don't usually have a lot of access to wide open spaces and a lot of places to gallop it is nice. I am not sure we went the full ride, we may have done the shorter route, i can't remember now.
there is also Escrick Park - I have never been but it's supposed to be good as well.
Its very good if you want more of a off road ride with lots of gallops ect. However having said that it also has a good vafiety of fences and the water complex is very nice Only thing is it is very weather/ ground dependant as to what you can do as it is all on grass so if we're not sure as to the ground we tend to go to somerford as more of an allweather surface
