Does anyone have any experiences of the Yorkshire Riding Centre?

For Christmas I am thinking of asking for a few days (possibly a week depending on costs) of dressage training there on one of my horses mixed in with riding some of their school masters. It is something I have always fancied doing and someone has suggested YRC and Talland to me.

You can PM me if you prefer and everything said to me, will be done so in confidence.

Speak to Sillymare, she goes up there a few times a year for 2-3 days at a time

I've taken Ludo there twice for flatwork lessons with Chris Bartle - it's only 1 1/2 hours from me. They've got a good set up 2 flatwork arenas and 2 jumping (one of each indoor and one of each outdoor) as well as a bit of cross country course. It's quite fun dodging the sheep as they wander through the outdoor arenas though

!

As for cost, when I looked into staying overnight in the B&B (me & OH), evening meal with them, stabling for Lude's and 2 lessons with CB it was around £300. I haven't quite been able to afford that yet, so I'm hoping to do this at Christmas as my pressie from OH and any friend or family member who wants to contribute

I have been a few times to the YRC (and once even with Sillymare). Very good. Have usually been with my own horse but sometimes on theirs. Got a lovely ex-advanced horse of Chris's once who taught me to do half-pass and traver etc. Perfect for the job as it wouldn't even go out of a walk unless you asked with EXACTLY the right aids.

There are several grades of instructor and i tend to go for the one directly below Chris or Jane - much cheaper and they all teach with the 'Bartle ethos' so you get very similar tuition.
You can pick and choose exactly how many lessons a day etc. you want to do and if you stay there the meals are fab.

They teach an enormous number of very well known people - they can't all be wrong.

Oh, and no-one will mind if you'd rather sleep in your lorry than the B&B

That is how I was planning on doing it... it would be off my husband, his parents and my parents

Not been to YRC but had private lessons on my own and schoolmaster horses at Talland and I would definately recommend it.

I suppose when you think about it, it doesn't really cost any more than keeping your horse at livery and staying in a B&B, plus the training - at least that makes me feel better about it!

I go up a few times a year for a few days and try to stay in my lorry, which makes it much more affordable. You can pay for meals without staying in the accommodation if you don't want to/can't cook in your lorry. I generally have one or two lessons each day with Chris. If I could up every fortnight I would!

Had lessons there every fortnight for nearly two years doing dressage, cross counrty and showjumping before I bought one of their privately owned school horses. Well worth it and I learnt alot. I had two instructors whilst there as one went on maternity leave. Would highly recommend either of them. PM me if you would like their names. They also run unaffiliated and affiliated competitions throught the winter.

Been there for three years, for a week at a time in the summer. totally loved it! I had lessons with Jane and she is a total loon but very good. You can watch people ride etc and its really good.

Apollo2 - is the horse you bought called apollo? If so I remember him!

yup they are decent but pricey imo , about 12 months ago a lesson with jane on a dressage schoolmaster was £85

personally i would choose the moody's who do schoolmaster lessons on 'real' advanced horses at £65 , would also doubley recommend them knowing that you (jet_set) compete & they are obviously very much out , about & doing rather well in the region
