Ok guys, tomorrow is D day.

What brilliantly useful things will I /should I need for the journey to bring him home? So far I have:
*useful navigator friend
*car harness
*water
*packed lunch

Anything else? Tips etc?
 
A young pup may not take to kindly to a harness, are you planning on sleeping him in a cage, would that fit in the car cos that would be ideal. Although I have to say most times I pick up a puppy it ends up travelling back on my knee, better warn your friend. I would take newspapers and towels in case he is sick, and carrier bags to scoop everything in to . Not sure how long the journey will take but I wouldn't plan on too many stops, if you can do it in one may be best but probably a bit far for that. Be very careful if you stop re getting him out, make sure collar and lead on securely, I would use a slip lead to be sure.
Make sure the breeder gives you diet sheet, and a reasonable amount of the food he is used to .
 
If its a long trip water & a bowl, if no air Con in car a damp towel. If its really hot and you get stuck in traffic you can put a damp towel over him to keep him cool. If you have a collar attach a label with your home address and telephone number, might sound strange but if anything should happen and he gets off his lead/harness at least your details are with him. Something for him to snuggle up to (comfy soft blanket) and a toy or to keep him busy, he'll probably sleep all the way home but just in case he gets bored.

I also agree a crate would be far safer than a car harness for a young pup, he may not have worn anything yet so it would be a bit uncomfortable. I don't agree with travelling any animal on laps if you are in an accident even just someone bumping into the back of you and pup goes flying he could get seriously hurt.

The crate wouldn't fit in the car, so will ask friend to be on cuddly duty - can't imagine THAT being a problem!!

RAC says journey will take 5hrs! I think we'll shave an hour off that judging by the usual estimations by RAC.

Good idea about newspaper and clothes etc - should I ask them not to feed him in the AM? Or light meal only?
 
If it's his first time in a car, I reckon there's still a fair chance he'll get the pukey-dukes:p

Totally ripped off from a verbose mate of mine, she has the best way with words:D

Take loads more water than you think you're going to need Kitty and have it in the car with you rather than the boot - that way you'll be ok if you get stuck in traffic:)

Erm, silly question, but you have got something to drink the water out of...?:o
 
Good point, Lil still threatens to go Chunder wonder on me now!

And yes, I will most definitely make sure there's photos to delight you all!!!

Those chinese containers are the most useful things!
 
LOL I also use them to make fudge :D

The friend that is coming is sooo useful, that she managed to use google maps to negotiate her way round Denver :D so she will be most appreciated!!

I brought Tojo back in a large cat basket.
 
If you want a stop off for him on the way back then you're welcome to pop in here for a bit (you're not a mad, psycho nutter though, are you?) and let him drink/stretch legs etc. PM me if you feel like it and I will send you my mobile number. We're a way from the A1 though - about 14/15 miles.

I should think we'll try and do the journey in one, thank you so much though, if it weren't for scared puppy I'd love to come meet you and H! x
 
Sorry, my post ended a bit briefly. Got an old friend of my mums visiting, her 2 whippets decided to kick off a fight. To cut it short, one had typical whippet tear which resulted in a visit to the vets and several staples! I think me and mine are keeping vets in business, last weekend it was 2 call outs to Murph with recurring choke. :(
 
Whippets is plain nasty when they fight, really vicious little beasties they are! Thank god greyhounds dont appear to ever want to :D
 
if he's small enough(not seen a 14month GSD) a large cardboard box to go on the back seat-saves your car from injury!
