YOs. Do you give your clients Christmas gifts?

Ours do. Last year we had chocolates and hand lotion. Year before that was really nice photo frames.

We have a Christmas Eve cakes and warm drinks. Up the yard then they give it out.

The yard I use to be at would do every horse a Christmas stocking - The first year you were there you would get a painted horse shoe with your horse's name so all horses on the yard had similar name plates, and then in years after you would get various personalised gifts. My second Christmas I got a baseball cap with the yard name and 'showing team' on it, and the third Christmas I had a lovely personalised gillet. Also the horses would get carrots in the stocking, so YO was very careful to put them out of reach!!! It must cost the YO a fortune!

First yard I was at we didn't even get individual xmas cards!! the YO just stuck one up on the board to everyone

The yard I'm at now, for the first 2 Xmas's we got 2 bottles of wine each, I was quite gobsmacked, but now the yard's got bigger that's stopped :(

Yes, I usually get something quite nice for my liveries such as a gilet or Roekl gloves. This year they have got some technic material base layer tops as I think it's going to be extra cold!

Yes. I always do little horsey gifties.

This I bought all my liveries stuff from Equestrian Clearance.

They got (variously) shampoo/ stain remover for £4 a bottle, polishing mitts for £3, a pretty heather colour hac tac (i think) polo shirt for £10, rock salt licks for £2.50 and whip holders for £4.

A couple of years ago I bought Harrods saddle soap, looked posh and cost about £4!

We don't even get a Christmas card between us. And the place is owned by a Christian Trust charity! Always send them one with a Nativity scene on.

When we were at the farm we never got prezzies but was always invited in on xmas morning for a tipple (and usually ended up being fed half a bigs worth of bacon sarnies by the farmers wife :D ) We always got them a bottle and some choccies and will do so again this year coz we get our hay from them.

We moved to a new place 2weeks ago and its in a blokes back garden. we'll prob get him a bottle but dont expect anything from him

Ours is a farmer, they always give me chocs & a tin of luxury bics, & give daughter a little toy. Usually give his wife smellies & do some baking for them. They don't buy anyone else though, just cards & a tin of roses to share, but I've been there years.

I'm making homemade treats for the horses, not decided on what the owners will get. Last year i made home made treats for both.
Will be making sure there is mince pies, nibbles and drinks etc at the yard on Xmas eve and of course plenty of carrots.

We get something, like nice chocs or biscuits. Last year we got a nice horsey mug and keyring. I always get them a bottle and some chocs :)

We have a 30+ yard so don't expect anything but its a nice touch :)

I've never had a prezzie from yo but a yard I used to be on did a bucket full of apples, carrots, treats and polos for every horse. Thought that was lovely.

Our YO gets us communal chocs for the tack room in the run up to Xmas, then bottles of wine, Xmas morning breakfast on the yard-bacon butties, croissants, mulled wine etc. and a christmas meal out too.

I think that's pretty mean TBH, even if it's just a bag of horse treats!
To be honest I don't agree with you. There are over a hundred horses at livery where my horse is. Even at a £2 or £3 a head for a "lucky bag" that would be very expensive (even if tax deductable). I'd rather the money was spent on the yard facilities.

Yea but its all tax deductable isn't it?

Actually it's not all - there are strict rules re "client gifts" -e.g. food & drink are not and gifts should clearly show some advertising of business.

I was on a big mainly DIY yard, where YO would get one of their clique to organise a big collection amongst the liveries to buy gifts for themselves! I always refused to give, saying in normal businessses it works the other way round. If they'd been helpful I'd have taken a different view, but your horse couldn't even f**t without them charging you extra for it.
