.... a horse that meets your fussy requirements list.
Well thats what I was told by a friend when I started my search.
Obviously patience is a virtue I have owned my lad for 5 and a half weeks and...
I am looking for a safe sane uncomplicated horse to generally hack, Do Fun Rides, Unaffiliated Dressage and do some small unafilliated jumping a bit of X/c. Basically a horse to have fun with that is a nice person.
Nice mover straight jumper no quirks certainly not a bit sharp Havent tried all these but he is safe sane and uncompicated is brilliant hacking out in company and yesterday went out and had the sort of hack I did in my twenties Cantering along a bridlepath and lying flat to get under low branches. He moves very well and certainly is a trier. Dont know about fun rides but he is an Ex Whipper in mount so I see no problems with lots of horse company.
I like a horse with a bit of substance so I would say Middleweight but not too heavy. I ride a medium wide saddle if that helps. He has more bone than I originally thought I wanted but my saddle fits
and it is a much loved saddle (yes fitted professionally)
15.2 to 16.1hh Mare or Gelding Budget lets say under £?k He was over budget and is a 15.3 Gelding
5 to 9 years old He is 7
100% in traffic He is Brilliant out on the roads with all sorts of traffic
Good with Vet Farrier, Lovely with Vet a bit twitchy shod at first then a pussycat
Travel in Trailer Not tried was perfect in the lorry he came in and there is loads of time for that.
Live in or out happy if it doesnt get ridden a couple of days Just got back from a weeks holiday and he doesnt feel any different. He had to stay in a few days when I was away and was a sweetheart the YO took him out and lunged him on those days.
No vices only eating carrots
I have hacked him out on his own fine. (I admit just once so far) he is a very affable chap has a calming influence on the stressy TB ex-racer next door is forward going charming and gets turned out with a little mare and is a perfect gentleman even when she is in season and flirts with him.
No ridden photos yet but eventually
