Unbelievable! My horse had kissing spine surgery to remove five spinal processes four months ago. Today I rode him for the first time and he didn't bat an eyelid. He felt so strong and solid, unlike the cripple he was when I last rode him 8 months ago. Rossdales are miracle workers. I'm so pleased and you could tell my boy was too. He looked pleased as punch. :)
 
Yay! Despite being a newbie I've been floating here a while so I've seen the story about your horses surgery. It's so great when they come good again after such a long time off...and even better when you just know they're feeling so much better about themselves!

Thanks. Obviously there is a long way to go yet. I only walked him round for a few minutes, but it was such a relief. I plan to alternate pessoa work with riding now. First two weeks riding just in walk, getting longer and longer, until I can start a bit of trot.

Thanks, Flame. To think I almost didn't have the op done. I just thought it was too massive a thing to put him through. But he really did sail through it and was visibly more comfortable even the day I picked him up from the hospital. His walk was so much longer and swinging. :)

I wish you every luck with it. I chose to have him operated on standing rather than with a general anaesthetic as I was worried about damage being done during knock down or recovery.
 
Yay! You would be very surprised with what they can do. My friends horse had 5 taken out a few years ago. After 1 year of recovery and getting back into work slowly....he went on to do low level eventing and hunting!

I think I've mentioned this before on your posts, but my friend who's horse had this done is out competing tomorrow in his first Novice event this season, she plans on doing intermediate this year with him, and potentially a 2* :)

Hope it continues to get better for you :) x
 
*UPDATE*

I trotted him for the first time under saddle today and he was fab. He worked in a lovely outline in self carriage and was so light in the hand and off the leg. What a beautiful horse he is!

No, I can't! I really thought I had two field ornaments. But if he can go so nicely without any effort from me as I wasn't asking anything of him, then hopefully it is just going to be a matter of schooling him and building up his strength, and we may be able to do some dressage. Who knows?
