..when everything seems just perfect?

FAB lesson on the Anglo this morning, I am so pleased with him it's unreal. Sis took pics but I look like a weeble, i'm afraid a diet has started in ernest...

I've had my boy 6 years now, we didn't hit if off at first as he bucked me off every chance he could! Lots of money spent on back, saddle blah blah blah....and I lost my confidence on him.

Anyhoo, after a couple of loans he is back and I've been debating selling....or not. Tried a friend's TB the other day and he was nice, and this mornings lesson was so perfect on my boy I can't describe it, a good chat with my instructor whilst rueben was munching on hay, and we listed all his good points, which far outweigh any bad points!

So why has it taken me so long to come to this decision? I don't know to be honest, he is perfect to handle, hacks out alone and in company, I can load him myself...and will be brill at a bit of Trec I'm sure...I just haven't given him the chance! <<<I think this is the crux. I could have sold him years ago but there was SOMETHING that stopped me, and 6 years on, OH almost cried when I said I was pondering selling! He has become part of the family, the field wouldn't be the same without him.

I think I got it stuck in my mind about the bucking me off several times a week when we first got him!

He is not going anywhere, finally, I feel we have that perfect bond, it just took a while! My advice is - keep at it, you will get there in the end. :D

Thanks for sharing this! Isn't it odd how the memory of something bad (like your 'he used to buck me off every time') can always be there, and occasionally it's good to step back and think - 'yes but that was years ago!'

I also agree from my experience that it's well worth sticking to it - I had a difficult beginning with my first boy and even advertised him for sale at one point, and now (hard work and schooling/lessons later) he's just as close to wonderful as you can get, I just love him and he's never going anywhere! :D

Love the pic :)

Hah!

Thanks...

He has been 'perfect' for a very long time if I'm honest, I've just put up a mental block, if that makes sense!

I just needed to get on and get on with it, and stop the whining!

My instructor is fab, I couldn't do it without her. :)

We've seen you now - DragonSlayer my *ss!!! Lovely pic :D

I also agree it is worth sticking with it and sometimes those that are more 'difficult' are often the ones who, once you have worked and developed that bond, will be really loyal. My current lad was a man eating monster when I got him but I can do anything with him now....

There's nothing like a great lesson to make you appreciate your horse. I'm a bit like you - constantly thinking of all the negative "might happen" things - and forget about all the great qualities that my boy has. Lovely photo - and lovely horse.

Thanks! I was showing off my new hi-viz on this one, a few weeks ago...

Sooooo true, it's hard sometimes to concentrate on the positive....
