Heyy Everyone .... *enters cautiously with a riot shield*
Ok well i didnt exactly get off to the best start with you guys :( but thanks to most of the people on here you gave me some good advice, and unlike what some people said, i DID take it in and you guys really helped me :) so, thank you very very much <3
right ok so basically, lady was doing really well in the winter, until one day i took off her rug and she had lost weight :( so i changed her feed to something to help her gain more weight, but only a tiny improvement after a few weeks. HHOers made me realise how stupid i was riding her so i stopped all work completely to give her a better chance of gaining weight :) someone made a comment about lice, so i checked, and yes, she had them :( sooo off to the vets and they gave me some SUPER strong treatment which made the lice drop off dead straight away :)
anyway now that thats sorted vet advised to keep up the feed regime which we have for her (dodsen & horrel build up cubes, alfa a oil, sugabeet, pink powder, garlic powder and a dollop of veg oil) :) well.....she went from this....

I've worked my butt off trying to sort her and she isn't the easiest horse's to keep up...takes poor-doer to the extreme! But I love her and always will, she's my baby and means the most to me in the world *hugs for ladylou* so a BIIIGGG thank you to everyone on here with all their help and advice, and HUUGGEE thank you to BINKY01!!!!!!! been so supportive all the way through <3
been so worried about making this post after what happened last time :/ but i want your opinions on her....so opinions on a [nice!] postcard please :D x

I didn't see the original postings so dont know what went off, but anyway, from looking at the pics she looks loaaaaaaaads better, you must be well chuffed with your hard work, well done :)

Big improvement! Well done!

How old is she? She looks like quite an oldie?

You could start trying to encourage a little topline with a bit of gentle lunging with some LONG sidereins on...

is she getting any hay? might be worth it if not - it's amazing what some good hay can do!

Much better. :)

Now is the time to start planning for next winter! Make your plan of attack now, get any work that needs doing on her stable / shelter etc done, and hopefully next winter will be much less stressful for all involved :)

I didn't see the original post but from reading your story I have to say well done for taking advice and acting on it. She looks lovely now. Keep up the good work.

I'm pleased to see you are coming on ok with her, and that you took my advice of alfa a oil :D instead of just apple chaff which is NO use at all. Have you replaced hay with haylege?

I can't believe she had lice - have the other horses also been checked/treated?

x

well according to what the dealer told me she should be about 18 now....but they lied about a few things so i reckon shes like 20 :/
yeah im lunging her now with side reins etc and yes she is getting hay twice a day :)

much much better, the rest to improve is muscle as she has ovb lost all that. but huge improvment, i remember your last post but didnt look back to it so didnt see what kicked off! well done, i know how hard it is with a poor doer!!

:D i was going to say thank you to you but i couldnt remember your name :( but no i still use hay
and yeah one other horse had lice and hes about 24 years old and hasnt picked up as fast as lady has so the dog walker woman reported him to the RSPCA last week (the officer came out, patted him, rang the owner and left completely happy) but hes is clear now and is gaining weight :D

What a difference, well done. :) I did read the original post, and considering some of the comments written, good on you for posting your progress, it must have taken a loy of courage. It really does show how much you love your horse and how you really have taken the good advise given... :D

OMG what a huge difference. She is looking fab. well done to you for putting in the work and also being big enough to listen to the advice.
What a shine she has on her, she looks like a different horse.

Fantastic she looks much better - and it is always so much harder to put weight on older horse - so really, really well done (I say that because I had a 5 year old that looked pretty ropey after a winter out, but looks fab now after worming and some decent food - took about a month, but was not at all proud at how he went back during the last month of winter, when he had done so well turned out full-time for most of it......!) Do pull her mane and cut her tail - it does make a difference as well (as I found with my nag....)

I hope you are so proud of your achivement, the difference if remarkable.

She totally looks a different horse, fit and healthy, although I do have a stong idea (like you) that she is a lot older than she was sold, just by her back, but she looks one happy and contented horse. Have you tried to track her freezemark to try and find out her real age or did you have it done yourself?

I admire your maturity to take on advice and criticism, and the total love and dedication you have put in to get this mare right, I hope you have a fantastic summer of fun together.

see.... i KNEW you could do it :D

you've shown maturity beyond your years, and risen above the criticism... and have shown the world how hard you can work, and how much you love Laydee.

big buckets full of praise for you. you deserve to feel VERY proud of yourself.

:D

awww thank you :)
and she had her freezemark when i got her, do you know any websites etc i could use to track it down? :)

Big difference - well done, & very brave to put more pics up considering last time!

As scally says, have you tried to trace the freezemark? they won't tell you past owners, but will probably have a brief description, ie bay 15.3hh mare ? years.

If you pull her mane it'll take years off her & make her neck look better. Your choice though.

Well done, she is looking so much better - still a ways to go though, and personally I would lay off the lunging, and just quietly walk her.

Do get some haylage - it will make a huge difference in assisting with her weight gain.

i still use hay and yeah one other horse had lice and hes about 24 years old and hasnt picked up as fast as lady has so the dog walker woman reported him to the RSPCA last week

Ok, so clearly a management problem going on here for the horses generally on the land - and one that you should be thinking of long term.

Start ringing around for some better grazing for the autumn / winter. Get a good haylage supplier contact, and start planning generally for the future.

Good luck with her, and keep up the good work.

WOW!!!

That cann't be the same horse:eek: she looks brill!! She look's....... wow sorry all I can say!!

So much better than when you first started with her, and well done for having the guts to aks for help. Also well done for not giving in on her or on here after all the things said about you and Lady. I bet there's a few people eatting their words now! :D :D

Well Done, keep it up and try working on building muscle next. That will the fun part.
