I've stumbled across this ad in my search for a nicely built, reasonably priced youngster for me to bring on to be a fun pony that I can simply enjoy.
I'd like to jump at local shows, hack and perhaps do the odd sponsored ride. Nothing too ambitious!
Can you let me know your thoughts please? Chestnut Gelding

Not getting into who is the seller or anything, just from the photos - I would hazard a guess he is very sharp/skitty and/or cold backed

I did have a look at the other ads with the same girl riding

Regardless of the dealer I don't like the way he's being ridden, holds himself or the way he moves (just from what you can see in the photos.) It looks like he's being ridden quite 'heavily' to get him to go like that so I agree he probably is very sharp or skitty.

Both horses being ridden for sale by this seller go in similar ways, look like they are overbending and not working at all from behind, a false outline!

Lol I third the trainers

She's a dealer's rider - so one can assume she's not a terrified novice hanging onto horse's mouth for grim death! And she's slightly forward - staying off his back with legs very much in 'safety' seat.

Oh come on, how many riders do you see like that hanging onto horses mouths for balance, just because she is a dealers rider doesnt mean to say she has a perfect seat and hands.
I see lots of instructors get on clients horses and make a lovely picture whereas with the owners they do not.

I am not saying it isnt a sharp horse but to comment it is cold backed??

Wasn't my comment - but the commend was:

Note - guess - and/or.

And yes, some riders hang onto horses' mouths because they are unbalanced - but she doesn't look unbalanced and an unbalanced rider wouldn't last long at a dealer's yard. Certainly a more sympathetic rider could probably get a nicer tune out of the horse - the only way to know would be to try it (if you have enough confidence to be sure you could do a better job and the thing wouldn't take you into the next county!

Others explained before me, but if you have a look at the same girl riding in another advert, she is neither leaning nor holding on to the mouth
wink.gif

For this particular advert, she is in a defensive 'do not wake the beast' kind of position, holding the head for the dear life
