You'd think that BE might update the press releases on website

as they are somewhat tactless - OTT obviously did have an "amazing time" and must be cock-a-hoop at winning that money but it would probably have been better to attribute some comment to the effect that he was sorry for Mary's loss, likewise Stuart Buntine's comment as organiser "It has been an extremely exciting day with the world’s top riders and horses taking part. I walked around the stadium and have spoken to many people who came along. Everyone I saw loved the concept and was having a great time" should surely have been tempered by some expression of regret?

I had thought that EE was entirely independent of BE, but according to the press releases it's "in association with". How do we find out if that association has cost BE money? They can't have got close to the ticket sales they were hoping for & revenue from food concessions etc will hardly be significant as I gather that it was nearly impossible to find something to eat?

Usually when a celebrity BE horse or rider dies they post a statement about them not just a post script at the end of another statement. With everything Mary and Cavvy have done for BE surely they deserve a more respectful mention than they have been given..... come on BE !!

I'm not sure what else they could have written.

The facts are there, reasurrance that the horse received good veterinary help, and an apology for the upset caused.

FWIW my understanding is that there is no financial liability for EE as far as BE is concerned, their association amounted to helping promote the event and visibly standing behind it so EE wouldn't be accused of setting up in competition.

As far as the statement is concerned, personally I think it would have read better without the first paragraph. I think trying to convey both messages in one release was a mistake, it would have been far better to issue two statements. However, that's just a misjudgement, I'm sure it doesn't in any way reflect a lack of respect for Mary, the horse and his connections.

I don't know what they could have written and I'd have hated being the one who had to write any sort of statement, but I don't think that the response has the right 'tone' about it.

I think really it's just the point about BE being [ QUOTE ]
sorry for any distress the accident may have caused to spectators and their families.

[/ QUOTE ] that doesn't sound right. Maybe it's because those of us on here have a slightly different view on the sport and our feelings are with MK and the owners, rather than worrying about our own feelings about what we've seen.

Hopefully there will be a fitting tribute released in time.
