Hallo2012
Well-Known Member
Tootled to Keysoe for the BH YH Champs, it rained and it rained and it rained.............the dog gave up on walking after 20 min so had to be carried everywhere like royalty and i think he got through more clothing changes than us too!
Thankfully i had booked the on site B&B and the on site livery stabling so had the luxury of everything being under cover, hot horse wash, solarium and a warm room only 5 min away..............made the biggest difference to the weekend! I returned after my class on sun to find a mucked out stable and fresh hay, a truly fabulous service by Aureole Sports horses
He came out like a cat on hot coals to ride on sat but that is fairly standard for him at away shows on day 1,and it best to just get trotting and moving him around rather than try to force any sort of walk.................counter canter deserted us totally, he would like to do the 7yo test with changes thanks, so managed to get something resembling one each way and called it quits (as i said to a friend the next day, i bet thats EXACTLY what Carl does....not!!!!)
fortunately by the 5am alarm on sunday he had obviously decided to humour me and CC was back in the bag for a much more chilled warm up.
Arena walk passed with no issues, he literally rolled his eyes at me, the flowers and any horse daring to snort and off we went to finish working in!
He gave me a cracking ride round the test, i can feel the dreaded elasticity of the trot getting better and better by tiny degrees and he is trying very hard to keep his shoulders up in the canter........so its a bit of a shame he had to cope with Cotton Eye Joe at 500 decibels for 95% of the test which was in no way relaxing, background or suitable...............it was like riding in an 80's theme nightclub and he gradually got tighter and tighter in the canter until that infamous cymbal clash when he leapt forward down the long side and finally chucked in a change, so we had to quickly trot and re group then get canter again which to his absolute credit he did very quickly and then held the CC both ways with zero issues.
I did just have to laugh when i heard it start up, its used at all the stallion shows for the exact reason that it revs everything up!!! I feel like pan pipes might have helped the canter better lol!!!
he coped absolutely amazingly and despite the blip we were chuffed to bits with the walk to canter and mediums and he would have been well beaten anyway as the other 3 in the class were bigger, better, more supple movers so no great shakes I am SO proud of him for qualifying, and for how easy he makes my life............hopefully we can make it 3/3 and qualify for the 6yo next year too.
Just to finish the day of with another laugh, as he cheerfully bronced round the prize giving the massive rosette came away at the top, but remained caught up by its tails so continually smacked him in the face, and the more he spun away, the more it swung and the more it smacked him and i couldnt quite reach it and the steward couldnt quite grab him and everyone had a nervous breakdown whilst i did a western spin until he eventually stood still for 5 secs and i managed to hook it back on and again all credit to him he didnt bother about it once it was back clipped on and walked out cool as a cucumber......sticky butt fully tested ta!
He has an easy october ahead and then we will chase the last few regional points in Nov, so lots of charging round the countryside and a pole clinic planned
Listen with sound!
